One of my favorite books of all time. He is my favorite writer and this book is just insanely cool. In almost all of his writing that I've read, he takes the smallest details and the most insignificant things and the most outcast characters and gives them Biblical proportions, and in this case, several overt Biblical allusions to make sure that you make the connection. The funny thing is that when you give someone the synopsis of the story it sounds pretty boring and just plain depressing but he makes it fascinating and beautiful and terrible and amazing....(my gushing continues indefinitely). He preaches a lot but it doesn't feel preachy. It's insanely dark without being hopeless. It breaks your heart over and over and makes you want to be a better person. And somehow, he still manages to make it seem natural, unpretentious, and most incredibly....entertaining.

A decent suspense book with just enough drama mixed in to keep it interesting. I find Mary Higgins Clark to be easy reads usually and this was no exception. I will say that I thought I had it figured out a few times and the person who actually commited the crime was a total surprise to me in the end... i like those kind of books

This was "required reading" for a roadtrip with an old boyfriend and some friends. The roadtrip never happened but the book was decent.

Long ass book and very slow for the first 200 pages or so; but then it blossoms into one of the best works I've ever read. Great way to justify being a capitalist and not caring about anything but money, haha. Can't say I agree completely with the philosophy but I respect the assertiveness and logic of it.

I thought this book was quite immature --- as if I were on a long trip with an impressionable high school sophomore. I did not find Mr. Feiler's thinking to be very interesting nor did I really grasp whatever spiritual quest he might have been on or what spiritual insights he might have had. It seems he had a lot of "feelings". But I wish he were able to articulate a little better. (Please note that I am not judging anyone's spiritual progress. God forbid! I am just saying that I'm not sure what Mr. Feiler was trying to say.) Any book about this area of the world --- Bible based or not --- is bound to be political. Indeed, the Bible tells a kind of political story about the formation of a people and its conflicts with other peoples. But one would think that there were no politics or tensions at all in Mr. Feiler's world. He begins with a boy scout trip through Israel proper and his main observation seems to be "Wow, how attached to the land these people are." No word about Palestinians and their point of view. Indeed, when he comes up against a different story about Moses from the Bedouin/Moslem point of view in Jordan, his main reaction is to grow angry and sulk. But didn't he even do any research? How could the different story be a surprise to him after thousands of miles of travel. The best part of this book is the geography. That is, the speculation and study of the path of the Israelites into the Promised Land as described in the Bible.

I loved this book. I can see now why my daughter read and enjoyed this book so much in high school. It's funny, heartbreaking, and presents multi-faceted characters who struggle with many of the problems that I think everyone can identify with; from bright yet insecure Charlie, to gregarious yet secretive Patrick to mysterious and lovely Sam. You can learn quite a bit from observing and listening, but, like the advice Charlie receives, you've got to participate.

This book is by one of my favorite authors, Gail Carson Levine. Its about a young girl of 15 who is known for being quite hideous in looks but had the voice of an angel. Though most of the time she was hidden from the guest's of her parents' hotel, she was seen by their most important guest ever, the duchess. It could have been a disaster but turned out to be a wonderful thing for both Aza and her family. After a series of fortunate events, Aza becomes Lady in Waiting to the new...evil... queen...

Argh. I hated the artwork...especially concerning Logan. Some of the scenes were pretty cool, but over all it was not a very enjoyable book. Plus, was it my imagination, or did the writer actually rip off "Kill Bill"? Usually it's Tarantino ripping others off (albeit with love and homage).
