The action keeps moving with enough surprises to keep things interesting. Although the resolution isn't as neat and tidy as that in a fairy tale, it is satisfying. And who can resist an abandoned mansion? Although the cover art and story description may represent the plot as fantastical with a dose of horror, in reality the story is more realistic and focuses on a teenage boy looking for answers about his family.

The style of the book as a whole was unique and a nice change from a regular format memoir, but, unfortunately, I didn't care for her writing. Each story just sort of felt like it was scratching the surface and never really led anywhere. Also, what is with the ones like " Get Down Here This Instant." Parents should not tell their children some things...

This is how to best explain my thoughts about this book: It took me 2 weeks to read the first third, and then I read the remaining 2/3rds last night.....its one of those books that is slow going, but solving the mystery becomes compelling enough you cant' put it down - but that doesnt make it a good book.
