The author's Happiness Project involves following a chart of resolutions for a year, with a different focus for each month (attitude, marriage, money, etc.). I like how the author has done a ton of research on finding happiness and compiled it into one easy and fun book. Like the author, it's not like I thought I was an UNhappy person before, but there are a lot of good ideas in this book about how to increase and solidify that happiness. I found myself taking notes almost immediately, as there is a lot of practical advice and deeper ideas to think about. There are also many examples, particularly relevant to me because I have a lot in common with the author (mother of 2 small kids, control freak, etc.). But the overuse of examples from the author's blog rubbed me the wrong way. It felt like a cop-out to be reprinting blog comments, as relevant or as interesting as they may be - if I wanted to read the blog, I'd have read the blog. 3.5 stars

i wavered between three and fours stars for this book. i had no idea what to expect when i read it. i liked parts of it and didn't like others and i felt like it was really hyped up, so that i'm not sure my expectations were met. however i'm glad that i read it - particularly for all of the bay area cultural references that i could relate to.

For my full length review, please visit Casual Debris. Thirteen short stories and one novelette over 160 pages. There are no stand-out stories in this issue, the strongest being Clark Howard's lead-in piece "The Peregrine," Gloria Ericson's "See No Evil" and "The Five-Minute Millionaire," by James Cross. The only real downer is D. S. Halacy Jr.'s "Hard Headed Cop," which falls apart due to the plot's latter turn of convenience.
