Everybody's first cookbook. Or it should be. Not the best recipe for everything, but it has got a recipe for about everything, and if you do it like they tell you to, you know it's going to turn out pretty good. I've cooked for years, and I'm pretty comfortable doing a lot of things, but I turn back to this book as often as any other I've got.

Re-read April 2016 - I feel like this is probably a 3.75 stars or so? Originally read Aug 2011 (no review) - 4 stars Brief notes/review from re-read: Book #3 in the series was where I got up to first time around back in 2011, so I was hoping by re-reading these I could continue on and read more in the series, as I was told some of the later ones were better...plus I remembered these as being really good the first time around. Unfortunately, for the moment, I've only managed to get to Book #3 again. I think I'm probably not enjoying them QUITE as much as the first time around, although they are still entertaining and I will most likely continue on with them at some point. Whereas Book #1 was werewolf focused and Book #2 was vampire focused, Book #3 seems to revolve around a mystery in the fae world. It's quite good to see all these different aspects, as it builds the idea of the world and the different groups of people quite well. I think this one has some of the the same problems as the last two books though... there's a very slow beginning and lots of things described but when you look back not really a lot actually happens in a large early part of the book. Then it starts to pick up and there's lots going on crammed into the last 20% or so. Although I don't want to spoil anything I think people should know that there's some pretty traumatic stuff that happens in this one towards the end - triggers and all that. Major spoiler: (view spoiler) The romance subplot is moved on by a snails pace and then sadly, the satisfaction that should have been felt at the events at the very end are completely overshadowed by the fact that I was still feeling sick from what had happened previously. I know people deal with things in different ways and Mercy seems to like to ignore things for the most part, but (view spoiler) I as a reader just wasn't ready to appreciate this moment. Also - fade to black? Really? After all that waiting that's what we get? Urgh fine! Oh and we don't hear from Stefan or the vampires at all in this one...and I kind of missed them!

I listened to this on audio in my car for the good part of a month. I have to admit that, by the second or third disc, I was irritated by Portia's non-stop self-bashing. It was painful to listen to, especially knowing what a beautiful woman she is, but I suppose that was the whole point. Anorexia is not really about how thin you are or how you look...it comes down to how you feel about yourself. Portia does such a good job of describing what it's like to live life as an anorexic, it almost made me want to cut my caloric intake in half and start exercising vigorously. Seriously, as someone said in another review, it could be an essential how-to book for the anorexic-to-be, so beware of suggesting it to impressionable young (and old) people. Despite being frustrated with her tale of unrelenting low-self-esteem, I have to admit that I listened to the last disc while weeping in my car. Portia has a lot of insight after experiencing what she did and I found it wise and poignant. Ellen's no dummy.

Really liked this book. Many life events that could be related to. Ending leaves you hanging. I hope she is going to do more with these characters because there is absolutely no closure. If she brings them back in another book, I will definitely buy it! I got this book on the clearance rack and it is the best buy I have ever had!

I really enjoyed this children's story about a cat and what's going through its head. The things the cat described made me think of Maine. Love the illustrations, too.

It all started with a long 8 hour drive to Lake Powell. I grabbed two books in a hurry, not knowing what they were, and jumped in the car. As 2 long, unexciting hours passed, I picked up the massive, black-covered book and read... That is until, I came to find out there were many pages of illustrated images. The sketches were there to help kick-start my imagination and help me visualize the characters. So I read a couple chapters, and found already that the book was hard to put down. In a way it kept me on the edge of my seat, even though it wasn't an action-packed book. It kept me thinking and wondering what was going to happen next. I ended up finishing the book in a few days while on my summer trip. This was by far one of the rare books that has not bored me to tears. I strongly reccommend it!
