In a sane world, this would be a textbook, despite its spooky title. Robert Anton Wilson, so sadly now gone from this world, was a treasure of a human being, and in this volume his clear, rational, truthful voice rings out to all who can still hear. Read this book! From the laugh-out-loud funny introduction to the glossary of substances that closes out the book, RAW is nothing so much as clear-eyed and objective. I'd trust what he has to say over an unmarked semi-truck full of D.A.R.E. officers.

There's some juicy scandal in this story, but the last chapter leaves much to be desired when it comes to the love match that you are waiting for the entire book. And the love match is a bit weird in itself since the characters are actually first cousins. But I guess in those days, it wasn't so unusual. I also wonder if J. K. Rowling named Finch's cat after the Mrs. Norris of this book. Anyway, enjoyable read, but a bit long, and as I said, the ending could have been more satisfying.

Overall I was disappointed with this book. It had such a promising start with characters that seemed so new and original but then it fell into a familiar depressing mold. David and Norah's story seemed to take a sharp turn into the over done and tired while Caroline's became something of a cake walk where pretty much everything she wanted happened and there were absolutely no obstacles in her way. I found the ending the most disappointing though - Norah and Paul's "shock" at finding Phoebe alive was almost laughable. It would have been nice to see a story where Norah and Paul did not follow the norm and become guilt and grief ridden individuals like they should have and where Caroline did end up with everything she wanted just for doing the right thing. It made for a very predictable story. Also I found a striking similarity to theme of The Lovely Bones in here.

I have really enjoyed this series. I feel the writing is fresh on a subject, at least for me, hasn't had a lot of other similar books. Katniss is a good heroine because we can identify with her. She isn't perfect and needs the help of others. She has a valid point in keeping Peeta alive, and he has a valid point in keeping her alive. I'm excited to read the third book to get to know some of the other victors/tributes better.
