Alright, so this book is about a hunter (obv.) and he's out in some crazy jungle with all sorts of animals. The book is kind of boring at first, just basically counting up all the animals, no big deal. But as we get to the end, we count up ALL the animals, and realize that this hunter is in the wrong hood! He breaks right out of there like the chump he is. I hit this one with 3 stars though, because that initial bit felt like it was going nowhere.

This was billed as the "first South Asian American Young Adult Novel" Aimed at teens, so it's a quick and light read. I felt like I really related to it more from the South Asian American college student perspective...a lot of college student identity politics that I could totally relate to...fun to read about the dj "scene" in NY...something I always wanted to experience as a 20 something, but never really got a chance to. I liked the relationship between the narrator and her parents...that it was a loving relationship and not a stereotypically oppressive relationship, which I think surprised even the narrator, herself.

Sweet, fun story...youth fiction. Reminded me of the kind of stories I really enjoyed in grade school. Nice, believable kids with adventures in a "normal" world. Just fun.

In the end, I grew a bit weary of the author's style, but I was completely fascinated by the subject. Yet another (significant) piece of history that was left out of my school history books. I recommend this book, especially for those interested in maritime, Asian or world history.

My second-least favorite HP book. The exposition was needlessly long, and the writing was clunky at times. Though by page 400 I was pretty engaged in the story and characters. I can't wait till the movie.
