All in all this is a great story. The author was able to create and maintain a crazy new world that does not meet the rules and regulations of today. The story has a well developed and well thought out theme. I would have given the book more stars but there were a few little details that the author threw in there (to make the writing easier, I guess) which ruined the hard work that she had put in to create and tell this story in the first place. I must say that even with the little glitches I was completely captivated and read the book at every opportunity, including while walking my dog. I have very high hopes for the next two books in the series and for this author as she develops her writing style.

I saw the movie The Help before reading the book, which is unusual for me. Both are excellent and inspiring. I think they should be part of the curriculum in modern history classes - they really brought the day-to-day reality of the civil rights movement to life. The bravery of Aibileen, Minny and Skeeter will stick with me for a long time. Amazing book.

Hard to get into for non-James fans but gets really good about halfway into the book. The ending is really simplified and kind of lame--I felt like James was just trying to hurry up and end the novel. But excellent and eloquent use of the English language throughout.

Abnormal psychology concerns conditions known as mental disorders. In the first chapter, Sarason and Sarason review some historical background in diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders from ancient Greece to the modern era. In the following 2 chapters the authors discuss 7 different perspective in abnormal psychology, and the rest of the book is devoted to classification, epidemiology and treatment of mental disorders as defined by "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" (DSM-IV-TR). A well-written and very informative book, but unfortunately it has some irritating mistakes especially at parts the authors discuss about biological perspective.

I really enjoyed some aspects of this book and others were difficult for me to get through. The cultural experience of reading A Thousand Splendid Suns was wonderful. It is so very healthy to connect to characters of a different culture and to experience the hardships that they endure. I have a much greater appreciation for the "normal" people of the middle east and all they live through and for. It is a beautiful story of life and love in a world of war and terror. Hosseini captures your heart through the characters and their stories, while also giving you a taste of reality in the middle east.
