I only vaguely even remember the story. I do remember it being a letdown for Clancy standards. It wasn't bad though. Worth the time spent listening (& driving).

Honestly I read this book as a sixteen year old girl and I've never had a character speak for teenagers as well as Phoebe does. I know a lot of people complain about the multiple theme, but to be honest it had no clear message about war, sexuality, or anything like that. It was more about Phoebe coming to grips with people not thinking the same way she thinks or her mind changing as we read. She's not use to change and she's still adjusting to her families divorce. When her cousin, Leonard, comes to live with her she's clearly bugged and hates him. As a teenager you can relate a lot to Phoebe, because when your in her mind you understand what she's going through. Change is hard and the biggest changes happen during your teen years. Morals change, people change, and you just have to learn to deal with it and move on. The novel dealt with so many themes that I had no idea where it was going and I was kind of a shocked, but at the same time it was beautiful.

this is a quick read. It's hysterical and thought provoking. Ed Lin's also a really nice guy. The coming-of-age genre is given complex treatment without feeling preachy or stilted. Over and over the word "clarity" surfaces when discussing Lin's prose. It's an apt description. Lin's prose finds the sweet spot between lyricism and simplicity while deftly eschewing burdens often placed on narratives from the margins. The perspective is not often found in literature (which is a crime) but the themes and execution of those themes are universal.

All in all this was a good a book, but at times the author was very repeative in the sotry line, explaining what had happened in the previous book. In a series I understand that at every beginning you want to give a refresher in what happened, that is fine, but doing that through the whole entire book, gets rather irrating. Also the love story between Eric and Sookie doesnt seem to be entirely there. When Sookie was with Bill it seemed more beleavable. It just seems like the only reason Sookie is with Eric is because of the sex, other than that i don't feel there is much chemistry between these two characters. I am hoping in the next book the author will put more feeling into Eric's and Sookie Relationship. It seems to me that Eric has more love for Sookie than she does for him.

some of these are just exercises in characterization, but others are so compelling as to make the volume well worth the time, for instance: "On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning" (completely romantic!) and "The Dancing Dwarf". some adult content. characteristically bizzarre murakami.

Literacy skills: Phonological sensitivity- This book has a lot going on! There is rhyming and songs within the story, both help children develop phonological sensitivity. Vocabulary-this book talks about a lot of different animals as well as some words in Spanish. Many of the words are made up, this book is great for discussion with parents or librarians!

this is a very short and simple book that contains a number of well argued principles for simplifying technology. should be required reading for anyone that builds things for other people.

This was an audio play rather than an audio book. The different format I didn't expect but definitely enjoyed as a change of pace. I will definitely look for more books like this. The voice acting was done well, and I definitely got a sense of the character of the 8th Doctor (Paul McGann), which was nice considering it was a relatively short story (about an hour's length?). That said, the story itself I found to be only okay. I think that it being so short didn't allow for a more interesting story to develop. Worth listening to, but not the highest on my list.

I don't know about this one. That Ha Jin knows his stuff -- I'm not saying he doesn't -- but this feels more slapdash and less cohesive than the other books of his I've read. All the political stuff seems tacked on to the end to me for no particular reason. Also, I know the Chinese aren't squeamish about spitting and other bodily matters, but must I hear about the quality of people's spit repeatedly? Yuck.

I loved the new story! Sookie is still able to do Sookie-esque things. Her new love is amazing, the fighting is great, although a bit strange and Jason is definitely, well, Jason.
