Truly amazing! I started reading the Harry Potter series and I fell in love with this book. It's much better than the movie. More description and you can imagine every single bit of the story. I feel as if I'm with Harry, Hermione and Ron in every move of the story!

Everyone needs their ultimate flagship book of wisdom and life instruction. For some, it's the Tao Te Ching. For others, it's The Prophet. I know people who even take solace in that one Jesus book. On a more asthetic level, I think we all choose one book in our youth that colors how we want to look at the world and how we want to be seen. Think On the Road . The Bell Jar. Catcher in the Rye. For me, well, John Waters' Shock Value fits the latter requirement, and maybe even a little bit of the former. Waters explains the infamous crudeness of his work with such charming articulation and understated wit that at the end of your first readthrough of his book (believe me, you'll read it again and again), you'll be chucking out all your Nora Ephron DVDs to make room on your movie shelf for "Multiple Maniacs" and the collected films of Russ Meyer. Waters' philosophy is exactly what he puts into his movies - outsiders are the heroes of the world, and to lead a "normal" live is to lead a boring life (not to mention "normal" people usually tend to be far more dysfunctional than a typical flag-waving freak). His manifesto is tight as a drum in this book, which is damn near thirty years old and still as edgy and clever as ever. READ THIS. NOW. Own it. Learn it. Live it.

I feel a bit bad for not liking this. I wish I liked this collection more. Michael Earl Craig seems like a likable person. He talks about Herzog a number of times. I like Herzog a lot. The poem about receiving the anvil in the mail--that one was very good. A few others I liked quite a bit as well (I can't be bothered to grab the book and be specific). But I rolled my eyes to the majority. My eyes spun and spun. Involuntarily, I should add. Flippancy and humor done wrong (I can't be bothered to look at some specifics to extrapolate). Every page had me thinking, What's the point?

In light of Juan Williams firing by NPR, this is his retort on how free speech is being muzzled in America due to political correctness and the slant offered by many news operations. It is worth reading.

This was a sweet and gentle love story with a some unexpected twists. It's sure to inspire warm and fuzzy feelings, but surprisingly, it also challenges the reader to confront his/her own social structure and question the line between what is proper and what is right.

Accused on murder he didn't do, Landon flight away from the murdered man's brother who insisted that he killed his brother and demanded a revenge. In his flight, he found an orange stones that led his life into another direction and also into the path of beautiful Apachian named Dark. Actually, I love the story. The idea of a shifters who created from spiritual-powered stone was a new concept that I like. What bothered me was the fact that this story supposedly centered around Lan and Dark's relationship, but I found this story lack of it. What described more was Lan's former relationship with a blacksmith named Tom, which I think best described less so it could gave more space for Dark's characterization, not just a dark Apachian who looked calm and silent. And also, the scene when Dark explained to Lan about what happened with his body needed more pages because I hardly could feel Lan's temporal resentment of being a werewolf. But this story promised a good vibe for me, so I'll read the sequel.

Save yourself some time and money and disgust and, rather than read this "book", go read this inside of a port-o-potty for a few hours.

** spoiler alert ** I did love this volume but with a good conscience, I couldn't give it 5 stars because the ending was too open and nothing was really solved. Sure, we did find out that Watanuki's powers got so strong that he could leave the shop again and there were some small revelations, like, that Himawari-chan got married, but that was pretty much it as the overall story went. Watanuki didn't meet Yuko again and Domeki didn't use the egg she had given him... The stand-alone stories were beautiful, though. I think, and that's just my opinion, that Watanuki didn't meet Yuko-san ever again. She was dead and as she herself said, dead people couldn't come back to life. I also think that Domeki never married and stayed with Watanuki. He sacrificed so much for his friend, after all, he went to study folklore because of him, he focused on helping Watanuki instead of working in his family temple, he kept refusing women who asked him out... I don't think there ever was anything sexual between them, they just seemed like two halves of a whole. Now that I've finished both series, "Tsubasa Chronicle" and "xxxHolic", I have to say I liked "xxxHolic" better. It wasn't as epic and huge as "Tsubasa Chronicle" but I liked its quiet intimacy better.

A very interesting and detailed book on Islam in America. I got this book late in 2010 and have just finished reading it so it would be interesting to see Dr. Ahmed do a follow up to this (and by exstention his previous book Journey Into Islam: The Crisis of Globalization) on how the Arab Spring has had, if any, on the perception of muslims in the US and abroad.
