Avery (age 10) read this and she really liked it. She wanted me to read it too. It is a thought-provoking book. Although it is fiction, I think it probably gives a very accurate picture (the narrative is first person) of what it would be like to grow up autistic in our culture.

Fairly quick read about a 30-something woman grieving over the death of her husband. She is a non-baker who decides she to enter a baking contest. The recipes and concoctions she puts together are comical. The plot moves along at a good pace and the main character, Zell, is a very likeable person who struggles to overcome a difficult loss without being overly whiny and gloomy.

Really liked the strong female protagonist, Vast Machine, evil corporation above government rules, mysticism with other realms, off-the-grid folks, right versus might, outcast as Maya's helper. Didn't like the predictable brother versus brother conflict and Sparrow's son was wasted--he could have been a powerful continued character.

Second in the Garden Trilogy. Picked up this book and the last in the series at Mystic Hills Clubhouse. Didn't remember I has read the first book, Blue Dahlia, and thought I may have read the whole series, but I hadn't. This book focuses on Roz Harper Ashby, the descendant of the ghost, Harper Bride. She discovers more about the bride as she hires a genealogist to help her find out who the bride really is. She ends up marrying Mitch, the family tree guy. The book leaves the door open for the last in the series.

I love love love this book about organic gardening in small spaces. It's perfect for me, a newby with growing veggies. I've been reading over and over this book as I plan my garden. It's inspired me to try things I wouldn't have otherwise. (Potatoes, for example.) I very highly recommend it.
