2.5 stars This book had a lovely set up - the author is soo good at creating charming sweet little worlds with lovely characters - but the story and development of all these things needed a LOT more polishing. And the inclusion of the characters from the first book failed so badly. They were like cardboard cut-outs in this book, just terrible.

Amazingly insightful and depressing at the same time. I lowered its "stars" from four to three because of the depression factor. It was funny and sarcastic and definately Albert Brooks' humor. Very "Candide-ish." I identified with the "olds" too much and ended up not wanting to find out what happened to them, but I forged ahead and finished the book anyway.

Linwood Barclay is one of my fav authours as mystery thrillers go. He knows how to keep you on the edge. I have read all his books now and can't wait to see more of his work. Too close to home is a fast paced thriller that will keep you reading till there very last page. I highly recommend it if you love this genre.

At first the book really surprised me proposing this idea of a virtual reality world with mostly physical rules. We known for ages that doesn't make any sense. We stopped trying to replicate the physical world in the virtual realm, it's too impractical. But then I read the book was written in 1992, so, it made sense. Once I got past that and I read the book in context, it was a really captivating story. Now I want to read more by Neal Stephenson.

Godzilla wanders across the Marvel Universe's USA! If that right there doesn't interest you, this comic isn't for you. It's wonderfully dumb stuff. Doug Moench stayed incredibly faithful to the spirit of the Toho movies in these comics. It's got giant monsters, giant robots, Godzilla blowing stuff up for no reason, Godzilla saving lives for no reason, and, of course, the Japanese Kid With The Special Bond With Godzilla. But Moench doesn't stop there: he adds The Fantastic Four, The Avengers, SHIELD, time travel, a four-issue arc in which they shrink Godzilla, and a bunch of ridiculously-written cowboys. After a while, the whole thing gets so blessedly ludicrous that you can't help but smile while reading. Or, at least, I couldn't.

It's been too long since I read the other Vicky Bliss books (or even the Amelia Peabody Emerson books) for me to remember much of Vicky's history and how the two series intersect. I enjoyed this light-hearted mystery, but not as much as I remember enjoying Street of the Five Moons, in which Vicky first met Sir John Smythe, the debonair, irresistible international art thief. That said, the humor and farce are still here.
