Stephen B. Oates is a well read writer on Lincoln and a has a good way with putting it into words. I have had this book a long time.

This book gets five stars just in virtue of having G.A. Cohen's "Deeper into Bullshit", which is awesome, and actually better than the original Frankfurt essay which it is a comment on. A short summary: Frankfurt's account of bullshit is only a partial account; he characterizes the essence of bullshit that comes from an intentional indifference to truth, whereas there is another kind of bullshit that needn't be intentionally produced. This other kind of bullshit is that which is unclarifiable. A rough test for this kind of bullshit is if affixing (or removing) a negation sign to the text under scrutiny does not affect "its level of plausibility".

I recited one of the poems in this for a talent show in elementary school. A beloved book, only happy memories!

Great graphic novelization of the book. Excellent!

Fun read, especially if you're going to the beach. But it has some deep thoughts too, and good writing. Not a Danielle Steele, but also not Ayn Rand. Definitely recommend

I love this book and this series. Claire and Jamie are just fantastic characters. The writing and the story are phenomenal. I highly recommend this book.

The concept, the writing style and most of the characters were all very affective. Even so, it fell a bit short. The villainous Ken Kimble was badly written. I never saw anything about him that would have made any woman fall desperately, life ruinously in love with him, let alone three women. And yet he, and his wicked ways, was the common thread throughout the book. The linkable character in the stories of three women who loved to their own detriment. Yet, I still really liked it. Which I initially find hard to explain.... maybe for the parts that paralleled reality so closely. How women often fool themselves when it comes to love. How in a marriage the lines of what is ok, and what is absolutely not, can become blurry and gray. The neglect, the loneliness and the sense of responsibility that is so achingly written from a little boys perspective. The bitterness, the blame and the escape that is so easy to adopt instead of accepting responsibility for poor decisions.

Nice- I liked this one. A little too heavy handed with the metaphors (the maps, the life journey, what's beautiful etc.) Overall though, a nice story.

David Foster Wallace has created a new form of literature with Infinite Jest, cataloging our loss of humanity through the omnipresence of material objects in our lives, and the obsessions they give rise to, and to addiction and neuroses. It's utterly terrifying and the greatest thing I've ever read. I carry this huge book with me everywhere I go and read it every spare moment I have. Beware taking this dive though; you won't be th same after it.

Similar to the other Shreve book I reviewed, this is another "I never saw THAT coming" book. Amazing twist at the end makes the entire book worth it, even if you hadn't liked it! :)
