From: Lilac Wolf and Stuff The cover is so colorful and well drawn that it looks like it will be a fun story. In fact the cover is the reason I couldn't wait to read this one. The author lives in the metro-Detroit area, and the story takes place there. It was great to see all the references to Royal Oak and Ferndale. Places I've at least heard of and been to before. The descriptions and dialogue were all top notch. The characters are so well developed, you just love the three girls, Ginny is the central character here. She rooms with her best friends Jen and Annie. Jen is very organized and a great cook. Annie is more wild and an actress. Ginny is unsure of the direction of her life, working as a Nanny when she discovers she is pregnant. Having broken up with Josh, the boyfriend, she is terrified. The way the author goes into Ginny's feelings really puts you there. Your stomach clenches with the humiliation at what she had done. With the fear of losing her job, the joy at finding her dream job. Ginny really grows in the year of this story. Through her pregnancy, which at times seemed unreal, and after giving birth to Danny and learning to be a mom. And she's a great mom. I was tensed up when the doctors asked if she wanted a circumcision for Danny and I heaved a heavy sigh of relief when she consulted her friends and finally refused it. I'm just personally against it, and refused it for both the boys. It's a great story and I can't wait to read the next installment Three Girls and a Wedding, which is told from Jen's perspective. And that makes me think there will be one from Annie's as well. YEAH! I hope Rachel Schurig will let me review them as well.

This would be a great book for teachers to use to introduce poetry. The subtitle is "Poems to Speak, Sing, and Shout" and Janeczko does a good job of picking poems that inspire that.

Here's My Reaction: It has been a long, long time since I have read a mystery. Since I have gotten back into book review blogging, and am looking to provide a truly eclectic book review experience, I decided to feature several cozies along with some of the other books I have been reading. I am so glad this book is my first featured cozy! Richards provides a beautiful, quaint setting for her murder plot. Many of the characters are so likable you'll want to keep spending time with them even after you finish the book. Not to mention their town is one that seems like it would be a great spot for a weekend getaway. Or would it be? Aggie seems to be a magnet for dead bodies, and it seems like several turn up in this little town. Not one to stay out of other peoples' business, Aggie takes it upon herself to find the true murderer, convinced it can't be her predecessor Hildy. Richards takes readers on a journey full of surprises and hairpin turns before she reveals the true murderer, and believe me, you'll see several suspects in these pages. For a great cozy mystery that keeps you guessing until - literally - the very end, pick up a copy of A Truth for a Truth and prepare to be greatly satisfied! I regret seeing the movie before I read the book. Every time it talks about Hana Schmitz, my brain immediately conjures up the image of Kate Winslet! Anyway, I like the conciseness of the book. It is bare, without any superfluous descriptions or decorations. This also leaves a lot for the reader to think about. Hana will forever remain a mystery....

I read this in sophomore year of high school and loved it, then read it again two years ago for a history of American lit class and was very conflicted. It's hard to see Tea Cake as anything other than a two-bit gambler, though Hurston wants us to believe he has much more to offer.
