It was just okay.

Eventhough I really don't like books with magic and strange abilities, I liked it. The characters were likeable and their problems and fears were very understandable.
I loved this funny mystery about a flock of sheep who decide to investigate the murder of their shepherd. I loved watching the story unfold through the lens of the charmingly naive sheep that are everything sheep should be; flighty, easily frightened, quick to jump to conclusions and above all else focused on food. I also loved each individual sheep with his or her own quirks, strengths, dreams and fears. I even loved the little sketch of a sheep on the bottom of each page.

Another great installment in the Escape from Furnace series. This world just keeps getting more and more complex. I love the lingering question of why this is all happening. We continue to get the thrill of weezers, mutant dogs, surgically enhanced kids, and a demented warden with the added bonus of mutant rats, mutant kids and vast crematoriums. I love the intrigue and the surprising depth of Alex’s character. Especially his conversations with Donovan and the moral dilemmas he faces. I have the same two criticisms I had last time: no mention of ANY females and knowing that Death Sentence was the next book in the series put a damper on the excitement of the escape attempt. Hopefully book 3 will solve all this for me.

This is one of the most haunting and beautiful memoirs I have ever read. Kovaly opens her story with her escape from the Nazi death march towards Auscwitz. She literally runs all the way back to Prague. You would think that the worst would be over. Not true. She struggles to survive and maintain her human dignity through the terror that Prague endured during Stalin's purges as neighbors, friends and family members betrayed eachother in hopes of securing their own survival. I won't give away any more of her story, as I want you to read this book! She is a beautiful writer and hopefully her grace and her story will touch you as much as it touched me!

This apparently little-known book is a jewel. Written with passion and incandescant humor, the novel recreates WWII-era Greece (and to a certain extent, the rest of Fascist-occupied Europe at that time) with striking beauty. The characters are unforgettable and nearly all likeable; raw pathos, tragedy, comedy, and romance are fused into one gripping narrative that defies classification. It is, if anything, an effective composition of high Romance and a coming-of-age story: two classic stories in one. But it never takes itself seriously. The story is remarkably erudite, also: historical data is incorporated seamlessly into the story, and the many classic and contemporary references are treated with the same delight as the meat of the story itself. The overall impression of the book is that of a touching, highly entertaining story written by one with a deep love of the people and places. Corelli's Mandolin: A Novel is among my highest-recommended book.
I am always happy with this series about Mr. and Mrs. Darcy from Carrie A. Bebris. This book takes us to Mansfield with a mysterious tale involving Lady Catherine de Bourgh's daughter. The ending was great, as well.

Coming from a juvenile fiction background, I would describe this as an adult "Julie of the Wolves". Beautifully written, Ms. Campbell creates a character so desperate to be loved, that she places herself at the mercy of others - but she is very capable of taking care of herself. At times it is emotionally draining to read - and although the ending is not "happy happy", there is a sense of hope.

I picked this first one up on a whim just because it looked interesting, and it was. For pure entertainment, it was good. Nothing monumental though. I read the second and third for the same reason.

Hemingway's description and details in this book are amazing- he's so descriptive and makes you feel like you're there with him.
