Kaeson Jiang kaesonjiang — Neal Stephenson is one of my favorite authors (snow crash, cryptonomicon), but he didn't deliver in this one. Maybe because it was co-authored. The premise was interesting, and the first half of the book was actually pretty good, but then it just skipped ahead and I didn't love the ending...

Pere Amorós pereamoros — There really isn't a way to review this book - actually four smaller novels - in a way that gives you any sense of the plot. Jerry Cornelius, a "modern" incarnation of the Eternal Champion, makes his way in a very non-linear sense and via multiple stops on the Multiverse through a journey roughly similar to the plot of Elric's "Stealer of Souls", I believe, where in he is constantly searching and striving to bring back, or revenge, or recapture his beloved and sister Catherine. Many references to rock bands of the 60s and 70s, notably Deep Fix and Hawkwind, and lots of drug references and gender bending sexual language - so certainly not for the kiddies. I reread this to see if I could retain any of the sense of the narrative structure as it seemed so disjointed when I read it as a teenager. But alas, no, I could not. I think I got many more allusions vs. what I did earlier, and I did find the narrative to be mind-expanding in a non-drug-like way, but it was still a mishmash of narration with occasional burst of coherence.

Kayla Thompson kaylathomp6f00 — I liked that the book was from the middle child's viewpoint - the Watsons seemed like a typical family to me with their highs and lows, flaws and good points (even Byron). I loved Kenny's imagination and misunderstanding of things (like the Wool Pooh!) - nice touches of humor which made me laugh and smile. I was surprised that more of the book was about their life in Flint, Michigan than Birmingham, Alabama.

Mark Weaver 43_reative — I am always happy with this series about Mr. and Mrs. Darcy from Carrie A. Bebris. This book takes us to Mansfield with a mysterious tale involving Lady Catherine de Bourgh's daughter. The ending was great, as well.

Jessica Castle jessicacastle — I truly have mixed feelings about this book. Overall, it is a good story. The premise of them being separated for ten years is interesting. However, it was just not quite as satisfying as I had hoped. The ending seemed a little abrupt considering how the conflict built. I like Dahl's writing, but this not my favorite of hers.
