I just finished this book! It was better than Once Upon A Marigold! Good job Jean!! Keep writing!

This was an amazing book. Per Mike Keelings observation, I have to point out that I didn't "read" this, but heard it on my iphone. I recommend it. both the book and the phone.

I love the way this guy writes. Once you start reading, it's very very hard to put this book aside. Very very hard. I blame mister Koch for some extremely short nights.

A while ago I realized that I had forgotten why novels were important, so I decided to go down my bookshelf reading or re-reading all the ones I owned. Luckily, this was at the top right. I like the novella form because it creates a more linear story, which lends to a greater sense that the story is constantly driving toward something important. In this case, it meshed well with Hemmingway's spare writing style. There is no back story, no sub-plots, nothing except the events of 3 days spent proving that a man can be destroyed, but can not be defeated.

I am fortunate to work in a bookstore and had acess to the galley of this book. I had been waiting for this book ever since the author started mentioning it on Facebook. I read it in one sitting yesterday evening; it was that good ! The premise might be off-putting to some. The novel is set in the future where a virus is rampant that makes almost everyone infertile around the age of 18. Therefore teens are being forced or "choose" to become surrogates to provide couples with children and keep the population going. I found this novel extremely well written and despite the future premise, it was relateable the present day. Some of these teens are compensated highly for their "deliveries" while others not so much. It kind of makes you think of the success of shows like "Teen Mom" which pay it's "stars" for their "reality" of being a teenage mother while real-life teen moms struggle to pay the bills and get by. This is entertaining read but will definitely make you think. The cliff-hanger ending sets up for the sequel which I can't wait for.

This is the most embarrassing book I've ever read. So terrible.

I can thank this book's adaptation into a movie for originally piquing my interest in the Tudor Dynasty, but further than that I have nothing but contempt. Phillipa Gregory calls herself a historian, but I find her books to be filled with nothing more than a hefty amount of paraphrasing and filling in the classic holes in history (were Mary Borlyn's 2 children Henry VIII's or William Carey's?) with her own ideas of what happened. All that would be fine and well, but as soon as she puts the "historian" label on herself and claims to have extensively researched her work, it leads the reader to believe that what she is writing is historically accurate, when in fact it's a series of interesting ideas that 'fluff up' moments in history that are otherwise shrouded in mystery. In my opinion, that mystery is what makes history so interesting, and you get nothing more than a sex filled readable soap opera with this book.
I liked this 2nd of the trilogy-not as much as the first-but still good. Brenna was my least fave character from the first book and since this is really all about her I'm not crazy about it. Good story though-moves along well.

This is only the second novel where I encountered a depressed speaker, and so it was enchanting in it's own way because it allowed me to delve further into a realm that was, at the time, quite foreign.
