My thoughts on this book are all over the map. I liked it, I hated it. I think the whole Trinity thing is bizzare and makes no sense to me. I'm thankful for my knowledge of the Godhead. I can see where the author was coming from on how he depicted each member of the godhead but I found it offensive, again, becasue of what I know. I become incensed when a child is harmed in any way so the beginning of the book was hard for me to read. And then the whole act of forgiveness...wow.

The version I "read" was an audiobook narrated by John Cleese. Very funny.

Another one of my all-time favorites. I'm grateful for college classes if for no other reason than that I am forced to finish books I would never have gotten through otherwise. It was hard to get into because so many names are the same, but the story continues to grow in beauty all the way to the end.

Pearl could have been an interesting story, but the characters are too over-the-top without being amusingly quirky. They are just odd and not very likeable. I did not find anyone that was interesting enough that would make me hope another book will follow with the same characters. Pearl still would have been readable except for the multiple graphically described rapes and other violence against women. It was just sickening. I read three-quarters of the book before I decided I had read more than enough.

This is a very funny collection of strips.... er, make that a collection of very funny strips. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say a collection of strips, some of which are very funny. (others being just plain funny and others being meh) The highlights of this collection are running gags about The Six Bunny-Wunnies series, Joe Cool, the introduction of Marcie, Charlie Brown getting expelled from camp, Sally's neurotic relationship with school and various sagas of unrequited love. Those strips showcasing Lucy and Schroeder are pretty pathetic, while those between Peppermint Patty and Charlie Brown are quite amusing. All in all, I'm glad my wife wants to put this one on our shelf.

True classic here. If you haven't read this, what is your problem. It doesn't matter if you don't like the French, or there Revolution, read this! Not only is it required reading for every high schooler, it is an instant favorite. I swear I cried all throughout the end of the book.

** spoiler alert ** As this book starts out Presley has just told her boss where to shove it and quit her job. Tired of the sexual harassment he keeps delivering to her she has walked away. Now that reality has set in Presley needs a job to keep her apartment. She takes up an offer her friend had offered of writing a freelance article about a Senator who's wife is from Presley's hometown. She also figures while she is there she can visit her family. What she doesn't count on is the Senator ending up dead, and her ability to want to find out what happened to him. Then there is Cooper and old flame of Presley's and what is he doing? And should she give him a second chance. I love this book for it's adventure and quirky characters it brings in this story. The mystery being solved and sometimes good people make bad choices and not by choice mainly cause they don't see any other option. I can't wait to read her next Presley adventure to see where Presley will wind up next! I definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves mystery, along with good shoe sense!

Reading Their Eyes Were Watching God is like reading poetry in novel form. Parts of it were supremely beautiful, parts of it were hard to read, parts of it were incomprehensible (at least to me) and parts of it just seemed to be composed entirely of nonsensical metaphors. The characters were interesting - Janie's story reminded me in parts of Girl With A Pearl Earring; I think in many ways both novels are about a 'girl who came free' - but I didn't think they were developed particularly much. More importantly, there were very few points of connection between my experience and Janie's own, and I couldn't really identify with her overly much. The plotline I found a lot less interesting. For all that there were sudden deaths from kidney failure and hurricanes and deaths from rabies, it seemed like nothing really happened. I would recommend it, but reservedly. It is an accomplished book in many ways - just not one that really appeals to me.
