This is the first great Lew Archer novel, and it has all the important Ross Macdonald themes: money, family betrayal, a masquerade, and a crime in the present linked to a crime that goes back a generation. There are two things that make this novel great. The first is that, in diction, style and plot structure, it is as carefully realized as any poem. Every line of dialogue, every bit of description, contributes to the beauty of the whole. It is almost without flaw: for me, the only memorable blot is a slightly clunky last line. (Although there may also be a weird breast metaphor or two. I wouldn't be surprised. I have long since trained myself to ignore these typical Macdonald lapses.) The second thing that makes this book great is the ending, unusual for any mystery novel but particularly surprising for Macdonald. After all the tragic events, it ends with joy. And the result is not a cheap melodrama with a crowd-pleasing conclusion, but a genuine tragi-comedy, like Shakespeare used to make. Do not miss it. This is a classic of the genre.

Well I went to Paige Tyler's website and confirmed it for myself...yes, she does have spanking in her stories. What a unique author, don't you think? This was a really fun read! Story goes...Jennifer Davidson is a shy librarian, who actually writes erotica under a pseudonym. Her boyfriend, Nik Evans saw one of her work, read through it and discovered his girlfriend's kinky imagination and fetish for spanking...which they eventually did often. Even in the library. *gasp* My thoughts...who says the library is only for reading and studying? LOL...It was a really fun book. I never read any other books that have spanking but Paige Tyler's idea of foreplay is surely whooping it up...and I mean with the girl thrown over the guy's lap and the guy bringing down his hand repeatedly over and over in a play of discipline and heating up what comes afterward *brows waggling*... Read also The Cutler Brothers Series, where spanking is very, very...fun!

Ruiz, as always, offers a brilliant and subtle insight to the world of love, the complications and exploration one can come to with themselves and ultimately with another person.

Hi-fucking-larious. One of the funniest books I have read. What you need to know: I am an immature cretin.

This was much more romance than mystery. I didn't find it as gripping as the second in the series but I still enjoyed the tension between Letty and Geoff. It adds to the series and I kept my attention. I think there could have been a bit more story development with our present day Eloise and the end of the historical story became a little muddled. My biggest criticism is once again Willig almost copies Austen ad nauseum with the scenes including Letty's parents. It was painful to read. She also uses phrases like "fine eyes". I am not sure if she is trying to honor Austen or not but it doesn't work.

This is one of my favorite Christie's. I know... some of her books are just silly, I mean most of her cases are too plain or otherwise probably exaggerated, but this one is quite tricky. Love the plot, love the characters, and reading Christie's always give me a conventional-oldschool-ish feeling, it's fun.

Title: One False Note Author: Gordon Korman Series: 39 Clues #2 Rating: ★★★★ Summary: This just in! Amy and Dan Cahill were spotted on a train, hot on the trail of one of 39 Clues hidden around the world. But wait! Police report a break-in at an elite hotel, and the suspects also sound suspiciously like Amy and Dan. Update! Amy and Dan have been seen in a car... no, in a speedboat chase... and hold everything! They're being chased by an angry mob? When there's a Clue on the line, anything can happen. Review: This was good. It was better than the first. Things I Loved: Amy and Dan's teamwork is fun to read about, and I feel like I'm learning while I read. Yes. Things I Hated: I regret reading these so late. :(

This is a marvelous illustration of the multiplicity, and as Pascale de Souza writes, the opacity of Antillean identity. The language of the novel is strong and beautiful - highly recommended!
