I had a really hard time getting into this book. It was so slow. It is so different. But it was still a good story.

An inside view of the creation of Iraq. Makes me wonder if our problems today wouldn't exist if decisions made in early 1900s would have been different.

read it so long ago, but this tale of a band of boys exists outside of time, serving our memories even at old age, leaving us asking for more. Direct, clear-cut, and poignant, 16 year old S.E. Hilton brings forth the ugly truth of social classes into light, but adjusts it so you see the tragic beauty of what is all too often forgotten--that we are all of beating hearts, that we are all the same. You will cry along with the rest of us as you close her timeless novel.

reread this badboy. original reading in ~98. um, let's see... oh yeah this guy really hates italians. doesn't seem to be all that happy of gentleman, loves his yoni stone, there's a bum who used to be somebody? uh, yeah, it really truly is a tale of discontent. hits the nail on the head.

Great book on the topic of trichotillomania for all different kinds of audiences. Very informative and includes besides a lot of information and personal stories from sufferers, several questionnaires and a Habit Reversal treatment plan (in a form so it can be used by the reader of the book, either for him/herself, a client, or a loved one). I was most impressed by the chapter that gives an overview of current theories on the source of trichotillomania, and one of the last chapters, which is a chapter on how to work with trichotillomania in children. The last one is not just important for parents and teachers to read, but also for adults who suffer from trichotillomania. They'll probably recognize parts of it from their own childhood. This makes it possible to identify the course of the disorder during the earlier years, which can help while working with HR.

I really enjoyed His Chosen Bride, with a bumpy start for the hero Mason but over the course of the book we see his transformation. Gillian is supposed to be getting married in a few months, it's a contract. Their "magic" society has depleted fertility and when she was tested she came out fertile, so at the age of twelve the Council made her agree to marry Mason. In the years since they haven't had much contact, Mason is a judge who seems to avoid her, his gift is control while Gillian's is love and compassion. So, she decides to shake things up at a party, by wearing a dress she almost pops out of. She is not sure about her marriage, she wants love and Mason seems too remote and controlled but she wants to honour her contract. Mason does not want to get married to anyone but he owes the Council a lot, who funded his education. His view of marriage and fatherhood was marred by a good for nothing father, who gave them a miserable time and then abandoned them, leaving Mason's mom to struggle to support them. At the party he sees Gillian as a woman, and then later tries to convince her to talk to the Council to back out of the marriage, she refuses. Mason doesn't understand Gillian, she lives in a bad part of town, was a social worker and now tracks down dead-beat dads, he wants a wife who will compliment his ambitions but he didn't see Gillian or the their awesome chemistry coming. Honestly, I really enjoyed the book, Mason from the first explosive wedding night to getting up in the morning and not finding Gillian, to finding himself thinking of her all the time, a pet-owner, employing a homeless woman, keeps finding his life changing and loving it. He, who never had dreams is now having nightmares because of the man sending threatening letters to his wife. He reacts badly to her pregnancy but more than makes up for it later, when he finally confronts his childhood. I love a protective hero and Mason was one of them.

** spoiler alert ** Chuck Klosterman's first novel - he's good at writing short, self-contained stories but seems to have more trouble creating a plot that can sustain a whole novel. I love the setting + very funny at times. However, the ending feels like when you're in third grade and you kill all your characters because you can't decide how to end the story.

It was a intriguing idea to write about Mrs. Rochester's life before she arrived in England and haunted an attic! It makes her a far more sympathetic character in re-reads of Jane Eyre. This whole Caribbean history was new to me. Worth a read.
Yazılmamış açgözlülük ve megalomani üzerine yazılmış en korkunç kitap. Ayrıca, şimdiye kadarki en harika filmlerden biri olan "Apocalypse Now" ın temeli.
