The one where the man is a spy against Napoleon and the woman is an Englishwoman who's spent years in a harem in India. Pretty dreadful. People's backstory is withheld for insane periods of time and then regurgitated in great chunks of dialog almost (but not quite) just in time to stop you from strangling them because you thought they had no good reason to behave the way they did. Secondary characters are trustworthy because Nigel says they "cannot be suspected" (and he's always right), or else they change apparent sides every fifty pages to make for more suspense. If it hadn't been in the bathroom it would have been abandoned after three chapters, but I'm actually kind of glad it wasn't, because now I know for sure it was that bad all the way through. Sex was pretty nice, except that there, as elsewhere, the emotional tone could change every paragraph without warning.

كانت تلك المجموعة القصصية بطاقة تعارفي بـ "يوسف إدريس" ، وتتألف من 12 قصة قصيرة .. كل قصة منهم هي عالم مستقل بذاته ، لذا كنت أحتاج عند انتهائي من كل قصة لفاصل زمني كي أخرج من أجواءها ، الرابط الوحيد للقصص هو "الرمزية" التي اعتمد عليها الكاتب كخط أساسي في قصصه ، ليفسرها كل منا كيفما يريد .. حالة تلبس تعبر عن صراع الأجيال الدائم .. وقد أبدع الكاتب في وصف الفتاة ! الزوار مؤلمة و موجعة ... و أخشى ما أخشاه أن أصبح مثل بطلتها "سكينة" يوما ما .. معاهدة سيناء مزيج من الصراع المهني .. و العناد ! قصة ذي الصوت النحيل مغرقة في الرمزية ! الورقة بعشرة " لماذا نتعارك أنا و زوجتي كل يوم و لا أطيقها ، و أقرر بيني و بين نفسي أنني سأطلقها و أتزوج غيرها ... و مع ذلك لا أفعل ! " ... فوق حدود العقل "يكفي أن تفترض الجنون في إنسان حتى تجد في كل ما يقوله أو يهمس به أدلة تثبت جنونه ..و يكفي أن تفترض العقل في إنسان حتى لو كان غير متمالك لقواه العقلية حتى تجد في كلماته و إجاباته ما يدعم إيمانك بأنه عاقل " عن مشاعر الأخوة التي حُرمت منها :) هذه المرة "إيه اللي غيرك يا سهير ؟" .. قصة مباشرة دون أية رمزية .. لغة الآي آي .. تلك على القمة بلا منازع .. هتحس بعدها إن الجثث في كل حتة مش في المشرحة بس :) اللعبة .. مفهمتش هي عاوزة تقول إيه ! .. رجاءً لو حد فهم يفهمني :) لأن القيامة لا تقوم .. متوسطة الأورطى .. برده مفهمتهاش .. !!! و نرجو المساعدة :) صاحب مصر .. " الزواج و العمل يصيبان شخصية الرجل بالترهل و عدم الميل إلى التحديد .. فلابد للجُمل من نهايات مفتوحة تسمح بالتراجع التام عند الحاجة " .... ملحوظة قمة في الذكاء !

I really enjoy reading about Cat and Bones. I think of all the ass kicker heroines out there Cat is my favorite. This Side of the Grave is a continuation of Cat and Bones' story. Battling ghouls, ghosts and her new abilities Cat takes everything in stride in manner that never fails to make me admire her not to mention give me a good laugh. Bones too is one of my favorite heros. His ability to sweet talk and melt your heart with how much he loves Cat along with the crazy things that fly out of his mouth ("Ask me if I sparkle and I'll kill you where you stand")make me love him so much. I am amazed that after this many books about the same lead characters Jeannine Frost is able to maintain the excitement in her Night Huntress story and make it worth reading every page (no skimming for me, not once). I hope she can keep Cat and Bones's story interesting because I look forward to seeing where their story takes them.
