The book "First Test" by Tamora Pierce would interest readers who like mythical adventure books like the "Eragon" series or the "Harry Potter" books. This book is about a little girl named Keladry or Kel who is fighting all odds in her quest to become a knight. If she succeeds she will only be the second female to become a knight. However, the first female knight had the luxury of hiding her sex until she was done with her initiation. Kel has to face the boys against her head on. I thoroughly enjoyed the use of imagination and the new language in the book. While reading the book you are convinced that a world like this could really exist. The way the author depicted Kel as such a relatable girl made it easy for me to become entranced with her actions and conversations. It is a unique read coming from a girl's point of view because she is literally the only little girl in the story. The rest of the story is surrounded by the male teachers and the boys that are training along side her. I truly believe this would be a good read for a male or a female because of all the different points of view that can be picked upon in this particular book. "First Test" is the beginning a series in which usually i don't like a series of books, however, i can't wait to finish the sequence of these books because i can already tell that every one of them will be something different and unique. They will be something that is impossible to get tired of. It is a whole new world just waiting to be studied.

I find Stephen King rather interesting. He has the ability to write more valuable works (ie, dolores claborne) but instead cranks out "horror" novels. What's interesting about his books is that they all reside in the same universe such that if one read enough of his books they would be able to place them relative to each other in time, location, characters, significant events... none of them exist totally independent to each other and all refer to another book. They are sort of the same story in that they all add up to one story. I stopped reading Stephen King awhile ago because I realized it wasn't really helping my literacy, vocabulary, etc. For The Stand, the characters are the most interesting thing about the novel. You have people trying to redeem themselves, others feeling out their path, all calling to some higher power. In ways the book is not very interesting and in others its very emotively effective. He's not the best writer but a good story teller. If you really desire to read a Stephen King novel, read this one. If not, you can do without it.

Really great book. He is an amazing and interesting character, who has a lot of great stories to share. It is great reading about someone who is super passionate about the things that they are interested in. It is also written in a very appealing way, fun to read, but with challenging concepts as well.

As with Finnegans Wake, no idea when I'll get back to this one (although for different reasons, as it's less of a challenge to read, just long and I like the idea of bios more than bios themselves). However, maybe this year and maybe putting it here will inspire me. Annoying that there's no cover, though. Almost as bad as the lack of the Arden Antony and Cleopatra!

WOW! I was pleasantly surprised when I finished this novel... I loved it! It's said to be a memoir, and it is I suppose, but it was so much more than that. It was actually an assigned reading, but unlike all the others I've experienced, this was so heartfelt and beautiful! I would definately recommend it for it's beauty, charisma and warm hearted feeling of love incorporated. The nurturing feeling and warmth were extremely felt in my opinion, especially in the end which I enjoyed most. I related a lot to it also, through the loss and other feelings, so as enjoyable to read as it was I give it 4 stars! Really, the heart of the womanhood put into it was so inspiring as well.

I have read several of these books, and love learning about the ghosts of the Gettysburg battlefield. Ghost hunting is not always as dramatic as portrayed on TV, but none-the-less, I enjoy the personal experiences woven into the history of the area. Read this one in ebook form from Smashwords.
The core idea of this book was good, but like most business books, the core idea shouldn't require an entire book to explain it. SO, I give it 3 stars for the core idea, but -2 for all da filler.
