How can you not love a book that introduces the idea of a porn landfill? Brilliant and entertaining.

I hate saying it due to the nature of this book, but I really didn't enjoy it. I really didn't understand the point of the first third of the book. The second was mostly little life maxims told in story form and the last section was just a tear jerker, "good bye to my kids" type thing. I'm sure this book is meaningful for his family, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

The most thrilling ride! The ending was killer! This book held me enthralled throughout - intrigue, edge-of-my-seat thrills, bittersweet and tender moments and one heart ripping scene. I can't say enough about how wonderfully written The Chicagoland Vampires series is and how the characters are fleshed out and developed - their growth with each book and the pacing of the story kept me engaged from Book 1 to Book 4. I look forward to Book 5 - Drink Deep and what Chloe has in store for us.

I'm loving this book! Thank you Robyn for suggesting it! I found it mis-shelved at the library - it was meant to be.

There is a feeling of being disoriented while reading this book and I think that made me feel, in a way, that I was a part of the book. That I was inside the house. One day I picked the book back up after a week of not reading it and I had lost my page. I tried re-reading pages looking for the familiar but there was none. I knew I had read at least 100 pages but in scanning the chapters could not recall a single thing. I ended up starting over. This also made me feel like I was in the "experience of the book." and maybe that is a good description of this book- it is an experience. Like those rides at Disneyland where you are on a boat, floating slowly through scenes and stories that come at you from all sides in sensory ways even though you are not touching them you are still being touched.

I loved this story! Kristin Hannah is a natural story teller. I found my mind wandering to this story all day long and I couldn't wait to pick it up again each night to see what happened next. The love and friendship in this story is very real and powerful. However, I am now ready to read a less emotional story!!

Gone to Croatan will remind you that the history of America, from the beginning, has also been a history of resistance, interdependence, and cooperation; full of people who dared to live and love in defiance of maps, boundaries, taboos, custom, religion, and class. From the Calico Indians to the Whiskey Rebellion to land pirates, nomads, labor organizers, and more, the stories in this book can fill even the most cynical reader with a sense of hope and possibility. This is the sort of history that can help shape the future.

You say you like “British Humour”? (whatever that is), I’ll give you British Humour! Amongst the ranks of the great Sir Terry Pratchett, I present to you, Douglas Adams and the absolutely insane world of “Hitchhiker’s Giude to the Galaxy”. The humour of this book is very much exactly what I was raised on, being an English girl. Therefore I spent most of this book in fits of laughter. Adam’s writing style is a little bit strange and it does take some getting used to. You are not introduced to the world or the stories within it, you are instead pushed full force with the subtlety of the train wreck. But you know, once Earth has been blown to pieces and Arthur and Ford are being read literally mind-numbing poetry by an alien race whilst hitchhiking on their spaceship, you can’t stop laughing and can’t put this book down! Arthur dent is a homebody who would like nothing better than to stay in his little house, quietly drinking tea in his dressing gown and being left alone by annoying people (see: anybody else). No way in hell is that going to happen, since not only is the council out to destroy his house so they can build a new motorway right through it, but aliens have also decided today is a good day to wipe out the earth…so they can build a road through where it is as well. The world and the universe is against Arthur Dent today. Where is a cup of tea when you need it? Arthur is the quintessentially English man, who hates change and thrives on things like queueing. I must say the only character I really liked, personally, was Marvin the depressed robot. Absolutely brilliant. One scene I absolutely loved was the Whale contemplating what good friends it would become with the ground once it “met” it. Also the entire opening passage is fantastic. One of the first things you read is: “Curiously enough, the dolphins had long known of the impending destruction of the planet Earth and had made attempts to alert mankind to the danger; but most of their communications were misinterpreted as amusing attempts to punch footballs or whistle for titbits, so they eventually gave up and left the Earth by their own means shortly before the Vogons arrived.” Definitely recommend this to any lovers of fantasy/Sci-fi and British humour all around. I've been dismissing this book till now, judging it from its cover or more precisely, all the covers of all the editions of this book featuring the same 'come-hither' look. If the characters are complex, the plotline is appealing, there is some realism in the story, and the protagonist is not a two-bit slut going into season every full moon(as in a lot of YA "romance" books, full of forbidden love and love-triangles/quadrilaterals, etc, flying around on Goodreads, all rip-offs of each other; see here: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/22... ), I will certainly read it. My hate for the books mentioned within the parentheses comes from a time before I'd discovered Goodreads, when I'd finished Vampire Academy & Twilight and such, and a google search 'books like vampire academy' sent me to sites featuring apparently "enthralling" books with lots of shapeshifting, magic and romance. What came as a surprise (not a very pleasant one) was the vivid descriptions of a number of slutty activities, that repulsed me, a boy of 14 or so. I'd never found any such descriptions in Vampire Academy or Twilight, and was horrified to find these fully described in books that are apparently "books+like+vampire+academy". This is what led to my prejudice against all such books, which I still haven't overcome. And looking at the cover of 'Poison Study', when I find a girl (woman?) beckoning, I immediately dismissed it. This was when I first encountered this book, when I first discovered the enormous resource that is Goodreads, and had no friends who could give good ratings & reviews to this book and propel me to read it. Now, I come back few years later and find six friend reviews with good things to say of this book. And then my eye falls on the number of ratings and reviews of this book, I begin to think my earlier dismissal of this book was probably prejudiced. So, I will now have to read this book as soon as possible. (Probably August, 2012, as I've god 12th grade finals and medical entrance exams till then, and presuming I get admitted into a good medical institution, and haven't comitted suicide out of failure to do so.)
