Again, this book = high school. It's been years since I read it but I probably read it five times in high school.

Uh man, I definitely have a love/hate relationship with this series at this point. I wish the rest could just be all Myrnin stories!

Four stars may be a little high, but perhaps I'm reacting against the prevailing wisdom about this book. Michael Chabon calls it "halfhearted" and says that even lovers of McCarthy must set it aside. Anthony Lane compares the book to Elmore Leonard's crime novels, but (wittily, I'll admit) writes that "if I want Leonard, I’ll take him neat, rather than slow-filtered, drop by drop, through a layer of Faulkner, then laced with the Book of Jeremiah." James Wood calls it "an unimportant, stripped-down thriller." They're all correct, I guess, but Wood is wrong when, in praising the novel’s dialogue, he writes that it is “so good that we can confidently expect the Hollywood version to excise it.” The Coen brothers didn’t excise it, of course (but then again, maybe they aren’t Hollywood, properly speaking). And I guess that’s why I give the novel four stars: because it is rendered so clearly that the Coen brothers could make a great movie out of it. Everything that’s in the movie is in the book: the dread, the landscape, the dialogue, the weirdness. It’s a testament to the Coens’ attention to detail and skill in realizing a cinematic vision (and it must be said too that what they cut from the novel—a female hitchhiker that Llewelyn has some heart-to-hearts with before he is killed; a half-baked epilogue that tries to develop Sheriff Bell’s character further and lend the novel’s events greater signficance—is no great loss), but it’s also a testament to McCarthy’s own abilities to create these vivid images, characters, and events. So what the hell—four stars it is.

First: WHAT THE FUCK WAS UP WITH THAT EPILOGUE, YO? HELLA RAD. This book was so amazing. The best in the series so far I would have to say. The character development is believable (and amazing, so amazingly good...). Especially Sams character development is so good, I'm left in awe of George R.R. Martin for this fat, cowardly character who grows so much throughout this book. The plot is good and thick, and even better and more fleshed out than the previous books. I love the wildling culture. I don't know what to say. I'm horrible at reviewing sequels to books. I do know that Melissandre (The Red Priestess or whatever) is the most horribly annoying character I've ever had the unfortunate luck to read about. Talk about pushing her religion on everyone else. What the actual f is her problem? Stop breathing, please.

One of the best books of our time. Long, complicated, beautiful.

A thirty something woman in angst over an obsession with Mr. Darcy is a bit hard to swallow, but once done, it was a fun, entertaining "read"--again a book I listened to on my commute. Jane, our heroine, goes to an estate in Britain designed to recreate the life and romances of Regency England. Actors portray the men of the gathering and the women pay to take on a persona for a three week stay. Clever premise. Hale does have a tendency to cover the same ground (our Jane's thoughts on her obsession) but the suprise that one suitor who our heroine thought was 'real' wasn't was a fun twist. Didn't care for the ending but hey, it did entertain me on the drive for my first week back to school.
I really liked this story. Harriet and Jem were a great couple of characters. I also like how the author doesn't drag out her sickbed/deathbed scenes too long.

Loved this book. Tom Perrotta has a wonderous way of storytelling that makes you want to keep on reading. Perfectly written and times, all the characters wsell developed alongside their relationships; believable.

I will try to post a review later; however, if you are interested in Nicole Krauss and her husband, Jonathan Safron Foer, check out these links: [http//www.yankeepotroast.org/archives/2005/...] [http://books.guardian.co.uk/departmen...] [http://books.guardian.co.uk/departmen...] ... I understand the literary community's preoccupation with the similarities between JSF and Nicole's writing, but I just look at it as two people who live together, both write and share their writing with eachother. However, I think that Nicole may be the better writer. Sorry, JSF.
