Quando, però, entra nel vivo la trama principale del romanzo, che riguarda l'indagine che i due protagonisti intraprendono, lo sviluppo lascia a desiderare, e l'interessa cala leggermente, a causa soprattutto di soluzioni affrettate e semplicistiche in alcuni punti. La prima parte, però, merita davvero, rivelando le buone doti di quest'autrice.

I've read other books about Everest but nothing compares to this one. Dickinson's account of his ascent, immediately following a storm that killed 12 climbers, is sobering and suspenseful. I read this book years ago, yet it is a story I remember well. It will always remain one of my favorites.

Having enjoyed a number of Merrow's books, I was surprised by how much I didn't enjoy this book. The story felt completely disjointed, with entire scenes and points of view that did nothing to progress the story (in my opinion)or draw me into the story. There are three points of view here, Dr. Nick Sewel's, the villain's, and a secondary character, Tiffany, Julian's female friend. But not Julian's POV which I found odd, distancing and even by the end of the book, I didn't feel connected to these characters. Book did not work for me at all.

True story of P.O.W. rescue mission in the Phillipines was diminished by mediocre to lousy writing and jumbled narrative. Seemed like it was written for high-schoolers or the best-seller lists. Not bad, but the participants own memoirs are probably alot better.
