I enjoyed this book, but I also understood I was reading it for entertainment purposes. I did not finish the book thinking I had walked a mile in a southern maid's shoes. We all process things in different ways. I did not focus on the black/white lines in this book, but the deep affection Skeeter had for Constantine. Even though she was "hired help", Skeeter developed a relationship with her. We should all be so lucky to care enough about others that status does not change the way we feel about people.

This was good read. It was a story of a warrior who is a bastard and falls in love with the daughter of a rich cheiftain. Then he believes that she betrayed him and his clan and leaves her. After 10 years he returns to find that she is widowed with two children. He has returned to prove his innocence in a crime he did not commit. She can not help him without endangering her son. But it turns out that her son is also his son and they have to overcome all these issues and more.

** spoiler alert ** I really did not like this book when I first started it. It took me about 100 pages to get into it, but after that, I found it okay. I thought it was very well-written. I wouldn't use the word enjoyable to describe this because it's an incredibly depressing book. It's hard for me to really say what I feel about this one. I guess I liked it but I had a lot of problems with the plausibility of many of the developments in the book (e.g. the romance between Kathy and Lester and pretty much everything about the ending). I really did not enjoy the ending but in a way, it seemed to be the inevitable conclusion. I can't really imagine another ending to this tragic tale. I don't know. I'm really confused about my feelings on this one. Perhaps it was just too unsettling for me to admit that I actually liked it more than I disliked it.

this is getting lots of chatter as a twilight/wicked lovely type book--once I'm done with faerie princess PI (A Kiss of Shadows) and historical fiction vampire thriller (Blood and Ice)! I liked the story well enough, but would have liked to know more about the whole immortal thing. They sort of glossed over this with a "yeah, I figured out how to make myself immortal and now I drink red stuff all the time" explanation. I believe I've heard from the ladies at work that #2 is not all that, so I don't know if I'll go on...

Plot: This book really confused me at first. Being a sequel, I expected the original story to be continued right away. However the first half of the book is about a completely different person and her world. It wasn't until the stories merged that the ending of the first book made sense. Characters: I like the main character in this one a lot better than the first one. Her character's point of view makes the story much better in this one than other other character's would. Setting: The setting doesn't change much from the first one, so I don't have much more to say. Overall: I like this one better than the first one. This one goes more into the mystery of the people and causes you to be more interested in their background. Definitely one to read!
