** spoiler alert ** This may have been one of my least favorite of the series. Don't get me wrong, I love Sherryl Woods and most of her books - but the heroine in this book just kept getting on my nerves. Maybe I need to take a break from romance novels. I appreciate that there was the classic boy meets girl, boy resists girl, boy grows and overcomes challenges, boy and girl fall in love - but MAN! There were times where I just wanted to tell Alice "when will enough be enough"? Maybe that was the point though - I guess the fact that I felt any emotion at all to it was proof enough that the author did a good job - though I doubt that was her intention, to have me get fed up with Alice. I appreciate the fact that Alice knew what she wanted and was determined to get it, however I felt as though her character lost some points with me because too many times it felt as though she was giving too much and just throwing herself at Patrick. *sigh* maybe I'm just being hard on her.

Are you looking for a book that has you falling in love with the hero from almost the first page? Harres and Talia's story is one of those books that you'll miss appointments, stay up all night, and not fix dinner to finish it. You won't want to put it down until you finish and even then you want it to continue. Harres rescues Talia from dangerous people in order to gain information from her. She was disguised as a man, but Harres still felt an attraction like no other for her. Talis hates him and his family for what she's believes, which is that they set her brother up to go to jail. Their escape ends with them crashed in the desert miles from the nearest oasis. Most of the book focuses on the development of their spicy relationship thru their adventure trying to reach safety. This book is a MUST READ.... You'll also fall in love with Olivia Gates as an author.... I always look for her books when they come out.

I think I need to take a break from these (but I probably won't). The author is starting to repeat herself a bit, which I suppose is the risk you run when you're writing what is essentially one really really really long book. Phrases that seemed unique are starting to lose their appeal after the third time they are used. But overall I still enjoyed this book, and I am looking forward to seeing what happens the rest of the series.

Why does this guy get to masturbate while Margaret simply waits to need a bra and get her period! Unfair! At least Deenie got to get off in the midst of having scholiosis, I suppose...

I have two major gripes with this installment: balance and emotional investment. Firstly, it is becoming impossible to be emotionally invested in any one character or storyline. I came out of Feast, really invested in two characters/stories: Jon and Arya. I just liked them as characters and I liked what they were trying to accomplish, how they had been able to manage, and survive. I was interested in Bran, Rickon, and Dany. I didn't mind knowing what happened with Sansa, Sam, Cersei, Jamie, and Brienne. You can't invest any emotion at this point because the time spent with each character and the effort to develop each one is so out of balance. I will have to decide at a later date if I will pick up the next book, because this one left me with so little to hope for, so few 'friends', that I don't know that the rest of the story will be worth the investment of reading it. I understand that this may be the darkest hour before the dawn; the depressing middle of the arc. But really, so far GRRM has given us so little cause to hope for any sort of satisfying ending, any sort of clear victory for anyone (even if it is just staying alive!) we perceive to be good- I don't know if I believe he will pull us out of this terrible slump we have landed in. Good things DO exist in life; there is compassion and joy to be found in great and small things. No, it's not 'realism' to create a world with cute Deus Ex Machina to get all out favorites to happily ever after, but the inclusion of the full spectrum of human capability would have served to highlight the differences in people, the range they are capable of, and how awful it is when people cannot find peace, joy, and kindness anywhere in their lives. This installment was so devoid of happiness and joy- it's no fun to read any more. More in depth discussion, on my favorite story-lines: (view spoiler)

This book was a re-read for me and I have to say that I have no idea why I loved it so much the first time around. This time I'm finding it clunky and dull. The characters are paper-doll thin and cliche and it was just not that good. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm going to regret paying out for a bunch of her other books.

This was a very nice quick read! It tells us that we dont always have to compete with other moms and dont need to be a Super-Mom all the time! It has very nice insights from other mothers and the quizzes throughout the book are great! I think its a must read for all the 'real' moms out there...everything in the book you already know as a mom -but is a gentle fresh reminder!
