This book was totally pointless and superficial. All it was about was being pretty, nothing more. It also moved so slowly, I think that by the time it took me to get to a point where something actually happened, the season had changed, and I'm a very fast reader. The most exciting parts of the book are so boring that I almost fell asleep at the climax of the book. If you choose to read this book, bring a pillow with you and another book to read once you get bored with this one.

I love a good action-spy-terrorist-FBI-Secret-Service-double-crossing-political-thriller. There are four authors in this genre that I turn to again and again, and they never disappoint. Sorry that I can't add Brad Thor to the list. Not that it didn't start out with a brilliant, and I mean BRILLIANT crime. The kidnapping of the president was really well done. Loved it. But then, The Lions of Lucerne turned into a Nancy Drew mystery: The Case of the Missing President (plus lots of strong language and violence). The clues were so obvious as to make the terrorist kidnappers look like a bunch of rank amateurs. Each bit of evidence was so over-explained, I felt I was being talked down to. We follow Secret Service Agent Scot Harvath as he is battered, beaten, shot at, stabbed, nearly drowned, etc. He has a couple of friends who provide key clues, and one introduces him to the only other person on the planet who could figure this out, who just happens to be a beautiful woman. And, just like in Nancy Drew, during the interview of the bad guy, an odd turn of phrase turns into the key clue that helps them solve the case! Wow! Also annoying, the reader is constantly reminded (through "tell" as much as "show") of how smart, tough, strong, well-trained, quick-thinking and handsome the hero is. I have another Brad Thor book on my "to read" shelf, loaned to me by my dad, who told me this one was the better of the two. Hmm. Hard to get excited about that one...

Kit goes off to boarding school as World War II threatens Britain. There she meets lots of unique friends and gets to go across the sea to Europe to small country were she meets a prince and has more adventures. The English boarding school story is very much in evidence here. Kit is annoyingly perfect and wonderful and everyone loves and adores her. There are no real consequences in her world and everything feels staged and unreal. The story has a very old-fashioned feel and fans of the English boarding school style and that old style will probably love this book. My tastes run to stories with more action, more character growth and depth and more modern writing style. It wasn't a bad book but it wasn't horribly interesting either and I was bored throughout. I am sure it's a personal failing but alas this is just not my cup of tea.

This book was just OK for me. I enjoyed Good In Bed so much and was a little disappointed by this one. But again, light reading and not too heavy duty.

This book completely took me by surprise. At first I wondered why I was reading it, but as soon as I started the second section with its shift in narrative voice, I was hooked. Auster's writing "goes down easy" for sure, and I love any book that plays with notions of truth, especially when done so convincingly ("trust me, I'm telling you stories"). Thanks, Becky!

"Bloody Jack," by L. A. Meyer (and the rest of the books for that matter) are simply amazing! I was first introduced to the series by Tavia Gilbert, award winning voice actress (known for many but popularly the "Night Huntress" series). Tavia introduced me to this book and I listened to it (narrated by Katherine Kellgren) and was hooked! Jacky Faber is a character I have grown to not only love but admire. It is amazing that one person was able to breathe so much life and spirit into a fictional person! "Bloody Jack," is a book filled with adventure, mischief, loss, hope, survival, tons of humor, wit, and much much more! I strongly recommend the audio versions for those who enjoy listening to the old cockney accents among others, which only adds to the experience of the characters; however, the story is just as amazing right off the page. Jacky Faber is one girl who will keep you fascinated from the first sentence and before you know it you will own all the books! L. A. Meyer has woven a tale that has depth, soul, and spirit that is all tied into one small (sometimes scrawny) girl. I cannot say enough about the book, so I'll only praise it one last time, the book and series is by far one of the best I have ever read or had the privilege of listening too!
