I LOVED this book. It's a good thing I didn't go through it with a highlighter because I would have come out with fewer untouched sentences than yellow (or purple, green, blue ...) sentences. Almost every paragraph contained a gem of a quotation, or at the very least a theological concept so true, yet so simply stated, that I wished I could copy the whole book down and carry it always with me. This book was lent to me, but I loved it so much, that I definitely want to buy it so that I can read it many more times in my lifetime.

It has been a long time since I read this book but it is one of those reference point works that stays with you forever. I just remember feeling so sorry for Gregor and I think everyone goes through a point in their life when they feel like no one can understand them and like they are different from everyone around them.

YA lit--still reading but good so far, especially since written from the male perspective, which is rare in this genre. Won an ALA Printz award. I stopped reading this because I started to get weirded out by the number of times the author (a skinny white lady) self-insulted her character. "I am a fat slob, I disgust myself. People gawk and laugh I am so fat....Blobs of fat hang over my pants...blah blah..." It is actually a good book, but I needed to put it down for a bit until i can take this woman seriously again (I know, I know, never judge a character by its author, but I am!). Anyway, I never should have looked at the book jacket.

A decent, quick read. Bank has a knack for making the sometimes dullness of everyday life readable.

Good Thriller Although i would agree that Lee Child is better but still not a bad effort

Very interesting to find halfway through the book that the rather eccentric meanderings of Napolean are in fact directly related to his experience in the Vietnam War. As he retells his story to his daughter, we the readers also, come to an understanding of just who he is and why he made the decisions to live his life the way he did. This is the story of a child coming to terms with who her father essentially is. The daughter has a very philosophical approach to understanding life. The story is not so neatly tied up in a bow however. We have to decide for ourselves what was real or may have been remembered in such a way as to alleviate his pain.

As the day of Cassia’s Matching Ceremony arrives, she could not be happier. She fully trusts the Society to make this life-changing decision for her. The Society has chosen everything for her during her lifetime: meals, books, entertainment, clothes. Why would she doubt their decision when it comes to choosing the person she will spend the rest of her life with? When she is matched with Xander, her best friend and confidant, she is more certain than ever in the Society’s ability to lead and protect her and those she loves. But when Cassia plugs her data card in to view Xander’s profile, it isn’t his face she sees. The face that flashes across the screen is that of Ky, a quiet boy with a secret past. Is it the power of suggestion that causes Cassia to fall in love with Ky, or is there more at work than a mere glitch in a data card? How much are Cassia and Ky willing to risk in order to be together? That depends on how desperate the Society is to keep them apart. This is the first book in Condie’s science fiction, dystopian trilogy. This story is set in a future, distopian version of the modern day United States. It is fast-paced and jam-packed with visual clues that our minds cannot miss from the dull, gray uniforms to the sparkle of the treasured artifacts. Crossed and Reached, books two and three in the trilogy, are available, which will make you happy when you turn the page and realize you have finished the book.
