It was good-ish. Fine, really. the story itself was intriguing and set up well, btu the author reissts making any profound statements on why things are the way they are. Unfortunately for him that woudl really have given the book a whole lot more power.

I've recently re-discovered Julie Anne Long (read her What I Did for a Duke and loved it). To Love a Thief is, as others have said, a re-imagining of My Fair Lady. Lily Masters is a young lady fallen on hard times. Her genteel mother died destitute and Lily has been left to fend for herself and her younger sister Alice. To that end, she ekes out a living picking pockets. When an attempt goes awry it falls to Gideon Cole, a barrister who has a master plan, to "save" her. Of course his saving Lily from prison has a price. His master plan includes marrying Constance, a wealthy and well-connected lady, who has been giving him mixed signals. With the help of his friend Laurie, Gideon plans to turn Lily into the perfect competition for Constance and force her hand. Though this plot has been done a hundred times before, Long handles it with originality and wit. Gideon struggles to keep his practical plan in motion while falling for his Pygmalion creation, Lily. And Lily makes a great counterpart for him. Nicely done.

Its an Amber Kell weekend here as i zip through this series. My only problem is i feel like one mate seems to be portrayed in a better light than the other. That and the constant baby references. A whole group of people calling each other baby is just weird.

Did anyone NOT read this book? Riveting (esp if you want to know all about being a geisha) until the last 100 pages or so. Felt like Golden got tired of writing and just wanted to finish it.
