Who wants to go road-tripping with me? Got the paperback and reread. Still liked it as much as the first time.

Breathless... that's what I am, after reading Magenta Shaman. And, it's not because I literally 'tore' through the story. Once I started reading, I could NOT put this down! I don't have a Kindle yet, so I download to the Kindle for PC app. I was reading this on my desktop computer the other night, and if the power had chosen that particular time to go out... my 'cries' would have been heard all the way to Eastbourne! (I live on the West Coast of the United States.) Urban fantasy/horror is a genre I have not read a lot of, especially the last several years. Not because I lost interest... but, because I found new interests. After reading Magenta Shaman, I am asking myself what was so bloody important to leave behind stories like this! Lily's dark tale... you were right, Lily. It IS a love story... leaves a delicious 'taste', and a hunger for more! What absolutely wonderful, dark imagery her words conjure... I can almost feel the Billowat's fetid, rotting breath on me. From the opening paragraph, my heart rate doubled... if I had been reading a paper book version, I would have left sweaty fingerprints throughout. Oh... I was right about one thing, Lily. Even with a night light, I tossed and turned all night! Somehow... "Thank you" seems a bit inadequate!

another fab book inthe lucky Santangelo series. I loved it, its now the 2nd of Jackie Collins novels I've read with lucky Santangelo as the main character, i now want to read the early ones, have managed to get hold of 'Lucky' (2nd in series), but 'Chances' (1st one) appears to be out of print as its going for much more than normal cover price. If you enjoy Jackie Collins books, you'll love 'Dangerous Kiss'!!
I'd divide this book into a few different sections, and each section would get its own star rating 1. The sad opening--she's lost her uterus, she's in a terrible accident, her husband cares for her and then dumps her for Bob, a guy he met on gay.com ** 2. The hilarious return-to-home stories--If the book was all this, I'd love it. I laughed until tears rolled down my face at several points. What's more, she's gracious and kind to her family; she is truly generous in her tone--in ways most people wouldn't be. ***** 3. The dull reflective meta-narrative--This is the penultimate section and I was ready to quit.* 4. The "definition of being Mennonite."--Snarky, shallow and self-important "definition" that is more complete or correct than "whatever's on Wikipedia." It is everything that Part 2 isn't, including a bit bitter and did I mention snarky? Snarky. Yuck. *

This is the most unusual story I have probably ever read. There is some very bizarre stuff going on. Marquez cleverly sheds light on the history of mankind and how humanity has evolved over time, through wars and illness, with new technology and industry, and how everyone is affected by all of this. It was difficult to keep track of the characters at times since many of them shared the same name. If you can get past the confusion of the names, and the peculiarities of what is going on in the lives of these characters, then you might find a gem of a story. Still, I'm left a little confused even in the end.

You might find an interview with Berman somewhere on the web, as I did, in which he states that in assembling Actual Air he collected all his interesting ones and frontloaded the thing with all his best work. This is pretty much true, except for...you know, some exceptions. There's some reaching for a taste of real greatness in those few beginning poems - stately lines that oscillate between two emotions. Wry, sad, funny. Berman has a beautiful feel for characters down on their luck, characters you and I can identify with, characters who shyly turn their face away. He's lyrical about the beauty of the South and heavy metal and divorcees and the nightmarescapes of back pain. And then there are his weaker moments, which is why I can't quite give Berman five stars: he's got a fatal penchant for mixing inscrutable political theory into an otherwise fine poem - words like "municipal" and "judiciary" slide like a film over the lucidity. Well whatever, you say, and move on to the next line. And then later on you realize, Oh, that must have been about disillusionment.
This book was a powerful and interesting young adult novel about how our actions and interactions can be exclusive, rejecting, and even mean. When that happens bad events ensue. Way more than a book about suicide, it is about the webs that we all weave. This book reminded me A LOT of the movie, "Crash", where all the story lines are interwoven and culminate in tragedy. The lesson learned is that when we pay more attention to people, their feelings and their reactions we can thwart hellish results. I would highly recommend this book to young adults and adults. It has been on the bestseller list for weeks and weeks due to "word of mouth" marketing. Congratulations Jay!

I found this book much harder to get into. Although I understood his need to be adventurous I didn't share his love of cars and his adventures. I am so glad he found some amazing friends and older people to respect. Without knowing it at the time, they helped create the man he became.
