This was the first "good book" that I read. After years of voraciously consuming crap (i.e. The Babysitter's Club, Sweet Valley High, Nancy Drew), my grandmother convinced me to read Little Women. I'm not sure I ever would have discovered other literary classics, other good books, without Nana's advice. So I'm grateful to her for that. About the book itself, though: Sure, it was intended for female children, but it's a classic. I've read in at least a dozen times and it's always charming, always entertaining.

This was a really cute book! After reading Waiting for You, I instantly fell in love with Susan Colasanti, and when my friend Kate told me she had this book, I was really excited to read it! It really didn't let me down. It's told in alternating chapters of Sara and Tobey, and each character has their own distinct voice -- that was one of my favorite things of this book. Susane did a great job with getting into Tobey's head. Also, she did a great job of seperating the two voices: Sara's parts of the book were distinctly Sara's, and Tobey's were distinctly Tobey's. It was nice how you could see what one character was thinking about a certain event, and then in the next chapter, seeing how that person thought. This is a really cute-sy book. After reading Waiting for You, I thought there might be a little bit of serious-ness in it, and while there was, there wasn't as much as in Waiting For You, making this a really cute book. It's good for a rainy day when you just want to stay inside, which is when I read it. :) Overall, When It Happens is a really cute romance story. The alternating chapters of Tobey and Sara were amazing and very distinct to the characters. I've just started Susane Colasanti, but I'm definitely not planning on stopping anytime soon.

So far this series swings close to feehans carpathians. That being said I did enjoy this book, and the one before it. The pace is a little more sedate than I usually like but these characters make me want to read more. I must admit j wouldn't mind a Gideon lol

Great account of what life was like as a slave, and how word of a slave rebellion spread throughout the states like wildfire. This story, of course has an unfortunate ending, but this story deserves to be retold so people can truly understand what life was really like during the time of slavery.

Apparently, Thomas Harris is a recluse and when he sold the movie rights, he wanted no part of the screenplay or film. You wouldn't know this by watching the film, because they kept so closely to the book (a few changes, but nothing significant). I loved this book, but I kind of thought I would since I love the movie. I only wish I read it years ago and would have appreciated it for the page - turner it is (it's a little less suspenseful when you know what's going to happen).

Terrible! The only bad thing to chance upon the family is the death of their donkey but he is not missed as by this time they have already tamed every rideable animal on the island. What a bunch of fluffy nonsense. Why write a book about a shipwrecked family when they have available to them every tool, weapon, sundry, livestock etc etc imaginable? Not to mention the senseless slaughter of every animal on the island. 50 thrushes for breakfast, really? At least one animal is killed per chapter so that the story grows old rather fast. In fact, the whole story is about the family running around shooting everything in sight. There is absolutely no story line, conflict or climax. What a pain to finish this book...
