An absolutely fascinating and informative introduction to the world of marathon running. Before I read this I never knew a sport existed where the participants could and would joyfully run distances of 50 to 100 miles. At points, I thought the book bogged down with too much technical information, but the story and richness of characters easily overshadowed this facet.

i enjoyed the thoroughness of the book. it was very interesting and a challenge to put the clues together. i think i could have done without a lot of the curse words in this book. isn't the target audience children or is it young adult? so that was one downfall of this book. another would have been the voldemort scene in the end. it was a little scary and dark, but once you get past it, it is not so dark...

Addictions and rehab could not be better felt that through this book (I mean while staying clean...). This man is not a standard drug/alcohol addict though, hes is a smart one in a way and that's what makes his success.

i have had this book for probably 7 years and i could never make it past the first several chapters. after seeing it recommended (again) by some of the leaders in the new company i am with, i decided to force myself to finish this book no matter what! i am glad i did. it was insightful. good questions and great advice. would have like more examples though IRL. i underlined a ton of advice i will refer to often.

This is one of my all time favorites. It just blew me away when I read those scenes of battle and gore. Not that I like gore, I hate it, but it gave me a good look at war and how senseless it is. Remarque was trying to impress on the world at that time, the senseless brutality, loss of young lives all enthused by their elders to get to the battlefield and fight for the Fatherland, as this was written from the point of view of Paul, an 18 yearold German schoolboy. It made me hate war and ever since I read it all those years ago, by the way, of my own free will not an assignment, I think it should be required ready for every 10th-12th grader in the country. The only other book I could compare it to is "Johnny Got his Gun" by Dalton Trumbull sp?

So much better than Spring Muslin. I think Heyer managed to create a rather arrogant, self-absorbed hero (very much in the Darcy mould), and a headstrong, impetuous heroine without having either one come across as overly annoying or irritating. The secondary characters were wonderful as well - especially little Edmund with his Button, and Sir Nugent (the scene with him and his valet and the boots! Oh, wonderful).

Ugh. This was such a slog, after such a promising opener too. I found this pretty much impenetrable, it was never really clear who was in each scene, often referring to he or him, which was often Cromwell, but not always. Unfortunately I think this book requires a prior reasonable grasp of the history and people involved.
