I was impressed at how the novel ended; Liesel lived a long happy life with a family and Max surviving the concentration camp. This novel is hands down a must read for high school students. It elicits great debates and conversations for mature readers. The experience of Liesel watching her brother die on the train is an excellent segment piece for writing. Students would be astonished by the events in this story and the fact that there was a time in history when things like it took place.

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory was a story about Mary Boleyn and her family raising in King Henry's favor. At the age of twelve Mary was married and by the age of fourteen she had become the king's lover. This was all made possible by her family who wanted to raise in power and wealth. But Mary is not alone in her fight for the king she has his wife Queen Katherine who in the end loses her favor with the King. Even though everything seem to be in Mary's favor another problem for her is starting her sister Anne has caught the eye of the king. Even though Mary has given the king two children and one of them a son Anne wins in the end. Anne becomes Queen and her family is so happy because they receive more power. But I think Mary truly wins because she finds a man she actually loves and her children can be with her. Mary gets away from the court life while Anne is put aside as Queen and a new queen Jane takes her place. This book was sad because no one treated any one like a human everyone was after power and wanted to just please one man the king. He who had all the power and they worshiped him because they where so hungry for power! Thank goodness that we live in a time and a country where we are free to be ourselves and not fight as Mary did for her freedom.

Obvious he was a poet before and after this. The writing is good but draining. 3 pages a night and I was done. Actually, I think I still have 20 pages or so left. One day, maybe.

I have resisted reading this book for years... when I heard a friend describe it as "it's about women from the Bible and the red tent is where they went during their periods", I thought "and that sounds soooo intriguing, NOT!" But it was recently chosen as a book-club book and so I buckled... and am really glad I did. It was a fabulous book! While I was reading it, I mentioned to my husband that the women went into this red tent to rest during their cycle and the men stayed away and he responded "yeah, lots of wisdom in that book". ;) Kidding aside, it was a beautifully-told story and I enjoyed it immensely.

This book cemented my love for cities (and the City), plus inveigling me into the mysteries of art. So there's a lot to thank/blame it for. Give it a shot.

I think this had a good premise, but too much time was spent expalining things versus things actually happening.

After picking this up a number of years ago and then setting it back down because life got busy, IT IS FINISHED! I read the last pages a couple nights ago. I don't want the series to end, but all stories come to some sort of close. I hope it's a doozy!

I had so many difficulties grasping on to this book. So many issues just focusing on it, and I don't think it was the circumstances going on around me while I was reading. The more I think about it, the book wasn't bad, I just didn't like it. The writing is beautiful and frightening at the same time; each character, no matter how fleeting they may be, has a story behind them. The story is powerful and moving. Yet, I think what made it so hard to delve into was that the beginning starts off stating everything we in the United States believe to happening in Afghanistan to be true. But after that the story sort of falls, and not to character developement. There are moments when the story picks up slightly, but it isn't until the last few chapters of the book that you're once again enthralled in the story. Before that I'm reading, a few images popping out at me, but for the most part I was on autopilot. I don't want my bad grade to affect anyone's debating over picking up this book. The subject matter is heart wrenching, and you just want to reach out to some of these characters. Women, especially, should read this book. People are constantly saying how women in the Western world, especially the United States have it so well off, and it's true. Especially because this story is a reflection on a real society and really what goes on in it. I was constantly being shocked and shaking my head. I was gritting my teeth for some of these women, forced to be shrouded and looked down upon. But at the same time, you see how strongly some of these people believe in this culture, and just as strongly, how there are people being opressed and wishing with all their heart to break free. This book was good, but the middle lag (which I admit is the toughest part of a book or anything to write) held me back from falling completely in love with this book. But for a first time writer (at least I think he is) it's a wonderful accomplishment, especially when coming from such an opressive environment and with fear of death for sharing his words. Remember, we are lucky, in this country to be able to do all we can. Just remember that. Read this book if you think we're constantly being stifled and opressed, you'll realize that we're birds in a forest, not in a cage.

It was ok. But my friend Indigo and i think it didn't fit in the Uglies series. i mean, Scott Westerfield had already ended the series with Specials. For some weird reason, he just had to write another one. If he really wanted to write another book, why not start a continuing series?

Not as strong as Kitchen Confidential but clearly lists all the things you do not want to know about the culinary field. I almost grossed out a few times, but then I cracked up.
