The plot and characters will feel familiar to the reader, but it was a relaxing read.

I loved Choose Your Own Adventure books as a kid, and I think her adult version of that is interesting, and what originally drew me to this book. I have had good luck with all the things I've read and always manage to "live happily ever after", but it's in spite of some scenarios that are very random, bizarre, and sometimes offensive (to me anyways). Pretty Entertaining, but not a must-read.

to be perfectly honest, i don't really like Melissa Bank's writing. i can't put my finger on it, but it's something along the lines of...i don't know. a self-possession that i find irritating; world-weariness in her late twenties. sometimes, i suspect, i am overly harsh.

So I'm finally trying this one. As my first-ever e-book no less. Go big, or go home, right? Since it's so long and things are busy now, I think I'll review this one in segments like a serial. Tune in for future updates, and avoid them if you don't want spoilers. Though it will be a while til I'm far enough in to count as spoilers I think. On a side note, I increased the font on my e-reader (trying to preserve what little eyesight I have left). It says I have over 28,000 screens of text to get through. But I'm already on 510! Unfortunately, it tells me that's not even 2% into it. Stupid computers. Installment #1: Ch 1-6 -- Anna's Party I'm having the same problem I always have with Russian novels and Victor Hugo -- so many characters are introduced so quickly, and I don't know which ones will be important later so I'm not sure who to focus on. So far it's been a lot of political talk about Napoleon, which is boring. I did like watching all the social maneuvering -- what is ok to say when, etc. I also find it interesting that they speak of things like war as if they are just an extension of their social calendar, expressing opinions they don't really seem to care about just to make conversation and appear up-to-date. Lots of fakery and show.

I have read, and re-read this book many times. The book imagines what Einstein's dreams would be -- bending and sometimes breaking the very laws of science. These dreams are unique, imaginative and thought provoking. Anyone who reads this can't help but be enchanted.

Articulates several issues our world faces in a manner that frames the problems and provides some actions the average joe can take to make a difference. It takes the concept of 'buying organic' and adds, if not replaces, it with 'buy local'. I've been to local farmers' markets several times since reading this book.

This book is a companion to the 1991 Granada TV series "James Randi: Psychic Investigator" (although you don't need to have seen the programme to enjoy the book) and discusses the experiments shown in the programme and any relevant off-screen information (such as participants agreeing to take part and then dropping out at the last minute, participants who stated that they were happy with the procedure before the tests took place but then claimed it had all been biased when they didn't demonstrate the abilities they claimed to have etc.). There's also a lot of general information about paranormal abilities. James Randi is a pretty high-profile sceptic and, as a result, tends to attract a lot of criticism. I bought this book to find out for myself a little more about him, and I was impressed with his emphasis on unbiased testing in the book. He makes a very valid point that it should be possible to replicate any supernatural abilities under scientific, controlled conditions, and, despite what his critics would have you believe, he seems to take every possible step to ensure that the participants are happy with the design of the experiments (they can request any changes they feel necessary) and believe they can demonstrate their abilities under those conditions. On the only occasion when a participant actually managed to demonstrate his professed abilities, Randi very generously suggests that the participant may indeed have supernatural abilities, despite the participant accidentally having access to key information regarding the experiment. The book's a tad on the short side, but if you're interested in finding out more about James Randi and his experiments, I would highly recommend this book
