I really enjoy Tori Spelling. She is pretty down to earth in a "Mommywood" sort of way and I loved to read all about her trials and tribulations as a mother and actress. One thing that I have realized from this book, and other reality tv experiences, is that reality tv is not really reality. It's staged. Tori and Dean act a bit different on camera than they do in everyday life. It's a job and somebody has to bring home the bacon. I like their show anyway. Now on to the food. Tori makes a famous red velvet cake. "My red velvet cake was ready on the counter, and I set about decorating it with white frosting, blueberries, and strawberries to make an American flag on top. I knew it would be the perfects combination of patriotic and delicious" (p. 128).

I initially read this book for an Advanced Placement Literature course in high school. Though I throroughly enjoyed it at the time, it is over repeat readings that I find myself completely enthralled. This book is 110% worth your attention. The story unfolds through snapshot looks at the life and times of a young girl living on, you guessed it, Mango Street. The true magic of this book is in the masterful subtext. Never does Cisneros hit you over the head with her point, or anyone elses. She simply lays it out for you to judge, to translate the reality of a small child to that of the "real world." Even if you think this particular literary work is not your thing, suck it up and give it a read.

This book was just okay for me. I like my books a lot steamier and sexy. This was cute but very, very tame. I liked the premise, but I just kept waiting for things to happen. I want a book to carry me, make me forget what time it is and everything I need to do...a distraction. This was not it. I didn't hate it for what it was a cute, tame story.

The Wizard of Oz story told through the eyes of the Wicked Witch of the West. This story answers the question of why she was so mean, and yes, sadly,it has much to do with growing up rather ugly. I found this book by turns amusing, engaging, and sad. Overally, a very good read that I had trouble putting down.

I loved it! Excellent. Best so far. I am enthralled with Gamache and his surrounding cast. They are not perfect but they are genuine. Learned more about The Incident that wounded all. Learned more about Jean-Guy and Agent Nicol. From my own study of history I knew Wolfe had scaled the cliffs, but did not know that both he and Montcalm died on the Plains of Abraham. Lots of French history was included. Quite interesting side bar.
