While this is an easy and enjoyable read, it really is only for those who have seen the excellent TV series. As I read Karl's travel diary, I found myself reminded of each episode and probably laughed more at the memory than the book in my hands. There are a few insights into events not captured by the cameras but, essentially, this is a companion piece to the series. Pilkington's absurdly brilliant mind does translate well to the written form but there just isn't enough here to justify an entire book. If you've seen the series, you'll enjoy the memories the book conjures. If you appreciate Pilkington's idiot-savant uniqueness, you'll smile at his ramblings. If this is your first introduction to "An Idiot Abroad", I suspect you'll be disappointed.

I absolutely loved The Godfather. The sequel, which is not written by the original author is a little lacking. I enjoyed it, but it was a little long. Events didn't unfold very fast. But I would still say I liked the book.

Dieses Buch ist nicht das beste von Brown. Er schafft es zwar, dass ich nach jedem Kapitel weiterlesen wollte, da er die Handlungsstränge kapitelweise mischt und die Kapitel jeweils am Höhepunkt enden lässt. Allerdings ist die Handlung zu vorhersagbar, das Motiv des Entführers zu weit hergeholt und das "versteckte" Geheimnis zu simpel. Es reicht eben nicht aus, Halbwarheiten und Mystisches mit ein wenig Allgemeinwissen zu mischen, um ein gutes Buch zu bekommen. Die nach dem Durchlesen eingetretene Enttäuschung bei gleichzeitig fesselndem Erzählstil sorgt dafür, dass ich noch 3 Sterne geben kann.

I loved the way Lisbeth and Mikael communicated while she was in hiding! Basically I loved this book even more than the first! For awhile in the beginning I was a little disappointed because it wasn't catching my interest as much as a story about a missing girl and a "closed island" mystery, but then it just got so good I couldn't put it down! Thank God I have the third book... I can't imagine having to wait for it after a cliff hanger ending like that!!

I can't come up with enough superlatives to use about this book. Engrossing, riveting, terrifying, awe-inspiring. Just a wow all around. Such a tragedy that ultimately can't really be blamed on anyone. The book reads like a novel and is as much a page-turner as any fiction I can remember. I also highly recommend the audio version of the book.

Good, but I may be burned out on Westlake. He's my literary god—the consummate pro—but sometimes his lighter stuff really reads too much like one another. Still, I had fun reading it, and isn't that one of the things commercial fiction is all about?
