This was a great book. First of all it tapped into my daughter's longing to fly. Second Piper McCloud is just a great spirit. Cayleigh got so involved with Piper, that close to the end, when things look bad for Piper her little heart nearly broke. She wanted to stop reading. But I convinced her that a book that makes you feel so much is worth seeing through to the end.

A Delightful Reading Experience! The Widow’s Walk League by Nancy Lynn Jarvis is the fourth book in the Regan McHenry Real Estate Mysteries. If the other three are as delightful as this one, I would highly recommend them. Regan McHenry is a real estate agent who has the habit of getting involved in murder investigations to the consternation of her policeman friend, Dave Everett. In this story, bodies of husbands are popping up everywhere, and it appears there is a scheme afoot to create four more widows to invest in a commune-style housing arrangement. When the new widows begin placing their homes with Regan and her husband Tom’s real estate firm, Regan’s need to “right wrongs” that aren’t any of her concern draws her farther and farther into the intrigue until she is unsure who the guilty party is, which could ultimately make her a target. Jarvis handles this story with the expertise of a seasoned writer. The story flows easily, and her unfolding of information and clues is superb, keeping you guessing until the end. Her characters come alive through description, dialogue, and their relationships with each other. I read the book in one afternoon because it literally drew me forward page after page. This is a great book. I am looking forward to seeing the movie. Definately gives a great look into what marriage is all about.

Not a book that terribly impressed me the first time around, which must've been 10 years ago, but after making an evening of it just now, I'm prepared to change my tune. I think I was originally underwhelmed by Searching for Robert Johnson because I was expecting something more definitive and expansive, which I'll admit was ridiculous since it's an 85-page book with uncertainty embedded in its very title. Returning to it now, entirely as a result of rereading Greil Marcus' wonderful chapter on Johnson in Mystery Train, I'm struck by how much Guralnick makes out of such a little bit of solid information. Indeed, the "facts" of the Johnson tale are less interesting than the mysteries and the myths. Frankly, Guralnick is such a master that this book couldn't miss. It occupies a middle ground between his mammoth biographies and his expert profiles, and I'm no longer of the opinion that it's a blight on his otherwise essential canon.

Reading David Foster Wallace will cost you. He's not easy, he's not quick, he doesn't even make sense a lot of the time. But man, he grabs you and won't let go sometimes. His bleak, sincerely ironic, take on modern life is often severely depressing because he has a knack for exposing all the dirty details you didn't want to acknowledge. It hurts, but there's something amazing about reading him because he knows you. Almost better than you do.

Interesting . . . very interesting. Slightly disturbing, but very well written! (I would not recommend the movie. Read the book, if you think it was disturbing, then DON'T SEE THE MOVIE, it is even more so!)

Sedaris is a master at getting one single point across to his readers: Life is what you make of it. He's hilarious and doesn't hold back about anything.

How to describe this book? It is enjoyable, entertaining, and the best synopsis of what constitutes "fun" and more importantly, why. Highly recommended for both professional game designers and people interested in working in the field.

Ok, so for ages I had heard there was a Judy Blume book in which a boy has a penis called Ralph, but I didn't know the title. After never stumbling across it, I sorta forget and considered it an urban legend or something - until one glorious day. I picked up Forever at an op shop in Orewa, and was reading it on the bus home when I read "Katherine, I'd like you to meet someone. This is Ralph", or whatever the line is. I was so excited I gasped and tore the book in half (the spine was really brittle)! I wish I had found it when I was 12. I would've been obsessed with the dirty bits.

It is so interesting but heavy and depressing too.
