This book is proof that some form of LSD/crack existed in the 18th century. Some may argue that Laurence Sterne was "visionary" when he wrote this book BUT what exactly is the difference between being "visionary" and being up for three days on a regular basis? I wouldn't hate this book so much if I wasn't forced to read and write about it.

In 9th grade we read this instead of To Kill A Mockingbird. I'm glad we did, because I could never get into that book, and I LOVE this one! Touching, quotable, and poetic. Set in World War II but holds relevance for all times. It is about relationships in the end.

I thought this book was interesting at the end because things started to change.

Sort of a bastard love child of Scott Adams and David Foster Wallace, it makes you look at the world in a whole different way. The absence of plot and some interminable footnotes make some pages harder to turn than others, but it all wraps up nicely in the end.

I had high expectations for this book because several people I knew had loved it. I didn't love it. I did like it, but it was just too amateur and cliche-filled for my taste. I was very intrigued by the story line, and the events of 1942, but I wish it would have been told in a different way. I felt like it was so predictable and sappy. I rolled my eyes several times while reading. Some of this could be because of the translation. It was written in french, I believe? But it's worth reading. I enjoyed it.

Although this book wasnt as good as i was expecting, after reading prom and prejudice of course, it was okay. Sadly enough i ended up liking todd better than i did ryan. It seemed like him and penny's conversations were like one dimensional, even when he talked to her about being perfect. I didnt like how she crammed the whole 'i wish i could be normal' think into one conversation between them. I felt like ryan was a little whiny sometimes, maybe because i prefer the 'stand and take charge when shes in trouble' type guy and ryan wasnt that. I LOVED the way penny, unlike many female heroines realized that scummy nate wasnt good for her. The way she told him off made me laugh sooo hard, i just wished she punched him lol. The story was really good on the whole 'me and my girls sticking together' aspect but i fel like the romance was rushed.

This was actually a very good book! The writing style reminded me of a cross between Harlan Coben and a harder edged Mary Higgins Clark. My co workers and I had dinner with Marcia Clark last night. Many of the things in this book are from her own experiences. Look for more books in this series!

It was OK. Not great but I've read much worse too. I think my beef with it is that it was written over 20 years ago and seems dated. (Not obviously dated, like no one has a cell phone) but the plot devices seem dated. Our protagonist has a big blank spot in his memory about his time spent in the SAS and has never given it much thought. (Huh?) A serial killer is sending him clues in the mail, which he also doesn't give much thought too, brushing it off as a crank. (Really??) Then the killer starts delivering his letters in person, to Rebus' doorstep, and still...a fatal and curious lack of ... well, curiousity! When Rebus' daughter goes missing then he goes under hypnosis and just as easy as that, all the missing parts of his life are recalled, just in time to catch the killer. I saw most of it coming a mile away and I think that's because modern novels of this ilk are more sophisticated. (Or, I should say, GOOD modern novels of this ilk....) That's what I mean by dated. Nonetheless, it wasn't so bad that I won't follow up on the series. Rankin has written a whole slew of these "Rebus" books, and Knots and Crosses is just the first one. I'm guessing that they get better. (I hope.)
