Aditya Naik adityanaik — Really! Best book ever? It was mediocre at best. Would never rank this book in even the top 100, can't believe it is number one on Goodreads, totally wrecked my opinion of the raring system here.

Emeline Lopes emelinelopes — Boston Kincaid finds out he has a daughter. A nine-year-old child he didn’t know existed. It was a lifetime ago he last saw sweet Ellie Trenton. Things ended badly between them, but thoughts of her still linger in his mind. When he confronts the mother of his kid, the woman who kept their daughter from him all these years, he doesn’t expect to be drawn to her despite the anger and confusion he’s feeling. Ellie is shocked to see the past catch up to her. She’s angry at Boston for how he treated her, but she can’t help but feel guilty about what she has done. Falling in love - again - is out of the question. Is it? I often shy away from books with contemporary characters that need to redeem themselves in a big way. Well, the ones that I think will have problems doing so. The only reason I bought Delinquent Daddy anyway was because Linda Kage wrote it. If anyone can do it - wield some redeeming magic - it’s her. I’m beyond glad I gave in. A wonderful character driven story! It pretty much had it all. There was so much shared history between the two main protagonists. This didn’t just weigh heavily on their souls. Mine, soul and mind, were affected too. So much time had passed before shocking news brought them back together. It is mentioned in the official blurb, so I don’t consider it a Spoiler. To suddenly come to know you have a nine-year-old daughter would be a heart stopping tidbit of information for anyone. The fact that Boston would’ve never known of her existence if the child herself hadn’t set out on a mission to find him had me in a state of dizziness. Her mom’s decision to keep Cassidy from her father threw me for a loop. Questions were running through my head: Why, when, how,… There’s no denying it, both Boston and Ellie made huge mistakes. The kind of mistakes that might not be forgivable. Thank god Kage made sure to show much more likable sides of each parent. They were filled with regret – so angry with each other and the choices that were made. I t was a MUST for their past story to be told. It needed to be brought up. They had to confront their demons, for it was the only way to right their wrongs. More than just once I shook my head in disgust, not wanting to belief what I had just heard. Boston and Ellie’s relationship back in his senior year of college ended badly. Very, very badly. What Kage did to turn this disastrous starting point into a heartwarming romance was nothing short of genius. They didn’t come full circle; instead tried to deal with what happened...with the goal to move forward in whatever direction this mess would take them. Oh, how I wished for Boston and Ellie to find their way back to one another. Thing is, you kind of expect this to happen (with it being romance and all), but this time I wasn’t sure of anything. Would they make it? I had no idea. The author didn’t try to force her characters to make up. All throughout (most of the) story, hurt anger and regret was palpable. No switching these emotions off at will. That also means no premature declarations of love were thrown around. It would’ve killed the story for all intents and purposes. The kid deserved to know her father and I was relieved to see that what went wrong between her parents didn’t affect Cassidy’s love for her newfound dad. I was happy that the child had an essential part in the book. After all, the whole plot was built up in the wake of her unwavering determination to meet her dad. Reading this book made me believe that people can change. It was a long road for them, but their connection - the bond they formed so long ago - was still there. I knew it from the beginning. For obvious reasons it took Ellie a while to figure it out. Boston felt drawn to her again right away, but he didn’t want to. I never got the feeling he saw her only as his child’s mother. Nope, there was chemistry between them as individuals. Man and woman. A lot! I’ve mentioned it before. The story was character driven. A great idea to include Ellie’s best friend Nora and Boston’s family as secondary characters! It would’ve been pretty unrealistic otherwise. No one would be able to hide something like that from friends and family, much less keep them out of it entirely. As for the romance…baby steps: Getting to know each other again, Boston learning the ropes as a father, forgiving each other. They had a lot on their plates. How come Boston never knew he had a daughter? Why did they break up in the first place? I wanted these questions answered – just as much as I needed both Boston’s and Ellie’s perspective to form my opinion. I loved that they both owned up to their mistakes rather than coming up with some lame excuse. They dealt with the mess and came out as a family. What kind of family? Read the book my lovelies…and find out! I was so angry and pissed at the two. Why was it impossible for me to hate them? I cheered them on every step of the way! It was big leap of faith for me to even consider the possibility of a happy ending. Wait and see. 5 stars to Delinquent Daddy by Linda Kage! Beware of Spoilers! A few of my favorite quotes for those of you who are interested: ° “…time for another distinct reminder he was totally and utterly alone. He’d rather just go home and be alone.” ° “He could deal with mad. He couldn’t do scared. He hated being scared.” ° “You didn’t give me a chance to mess up, he whispered in a hoarse voice.” ° “…she rubbed her fingers over the ache in the center of her chest. There was something else that hadn’t changed. It still hurt to watch him leave.” ° “A bad past can be fixed, Nora said. A quiet, lonely future is just…sad.”
