Peymon Sh _eymon — Genre: Young Adult Fantasy Anthology This was a very solid anthology; there was only one story I found disappointing - all the rest of them I liked very much. None of them have made me run out and buy one of the author's novels, although I'm now seriously considering picking up _Nobody's Princess_ by Esther Friesner. Her short story, "Thunderbolt" is about a young Helen of Troy when she was a princess of Sparta. This Helen is the least wimpy and superficial Helen I've ever run across. She's spoiled and willful, but I liked her very much, and found myself wondering why she would come to engineer the Trojan war (for I am very sure this Helen was not a pawn in that game). The novel apparently continues Helen's story. There is a strong non-European influence to many of the stories; one is set in pre-Colombian Americas, another during the British occupation of India in the 19th century, and a third in an African country during Rome's expansionist period.

Adjie Tvz adjiebasin7444 — After finishing the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, I was dying to read more Rick Riordan books. I picked up The Red Pyramid, which is based on Egyptian mythology. I really liked the book, but I wasn't as hooked as I was with the Percy books. This book follows Carter and Sadie, who are brother and sister and find themselfs amidst Egyptian gods. They never thought the gods would be alive, let alone meet them. But when their father summons a god, he lets more loose than he intended, and Carter and Sadie need to work together to make sure the world won't be destroyed in the process of saving their father. The setup in this book is great. Rick Riordan made it seem like he was simply typing out what the main characters were saying on a tape recording. His humor is great and I loved the writing in this book. I'm more of a fan of Carter's than I am of Sadie, but both are great characters. If you love Rick Riordan as much as I do, this is a must to pick up. Egyptian mythology isn't something I've read a lot about (this is my first book..) but I really liked it and I think this can be a great setup for the rest of the trilogy. My overall rating: 4/5 Simply because I love Rick Riordan's writing and I can't wait to read more about Carter and Sadie (now if my preorder will hurry up and arrive already..)! Sergiy Tsymbaliuk normski — I couldn't stop flipping page after page as I was really wanted to know more until I finished reading it. Guess what I got, then? Unresolved mystery, no answer for a question. Zero, nada, zilch! Very disappointed, indeed. I liked the idea of writing of which an ordinary girl's brain transplanted into a body of the most famous supermodel. But really, a book of 337 pages with no explanation? Scary because three words of WHAT HAD HAPPENED kept popping in my head. Most probably the details in the next sequel and I hope I get my answer. Happy reading!

Matt Brady matt35e0 — I hate it when I have to dislike a book that I agree with in principle because of the way those principles are presented. The author is a lawyer, not a journalist, but still the spin is profound. I felt duped midway through to find out she's married to a cattle rancher, and that fact shoots holes in her credibility. While she does make some good points, this isn't a sustainable-food-lit book that I would recommend to anyone just getting into the subject.
