Creative Colors creativecolorsstudio — This book didn't really move me in one way or the other, but I liked the multiple narrators and the concept of the story.

Dmitry Ovcharenko dmitryovcharenko — I read this book first, being here in AF you don't really have the luxury of starting a series from the beginning. But I was hooked, and thanks to the Amazon Santa am now reading book four and will soon have books 5 through 8. Intense thriller, I could not put it down once I started it.

Yordan Silvera _ographic — Life As We Knew It is written for teen readers. I read it because my ten year old daughter had it sitting on the dining room table. I can't resist a book left alone on the table! Life As We Knew it follows a family living on Earth as it goes through drastic climate change and all other kinds of scariness brought on by the moon being knocked off its axis. So many things that you take for granted (food, sunshine, heat, electricity, neighbors, community and more) disappear from every day life. This book gave me the feeling that I had during childhood after watching The Day After (a television movie about the day after a nuclear war). That movie terrified me because I was probably too young to watch it. This book terrified me in the same way but this time as a grown up that still doesn't want to die! Add on to that the fact that I now have a family that I'm responsible for whether in times of natural disaster or every day happiness and you have a freaked out Mama (admittedly with a very active imagination)! I came to work the morning after reading this book and confided in a coworker how freaked out I was by this kid's book. Needless to say, he thought it was a little hilarious and a little crazy of me to feel this way! I felt better a month or so later when I had a random conversation with another mom at my daughter's school library when she mentioned a book she had read from that very library which gave her nightmares! Well, guess what. It was this book. So, even though I'm one to be against any banning of books, I'm not so against putting this on a shelf your child can't reach for a couple of years, just in case they're wimpy like me! I have to note though that this didn't slightly freak my daughter out. She and I both found it to be a great book. It just gave the grown up in the house a nagging sense of fear and doubt about whether everything is always going to be as we know it.

Benni Toeppe _enni_oeppe — The Reserve is hailed as “love story, part murder-mystery, set on the cusp of the second world war” as claimed by the book jacket. I had already read and loved Banks’ Cloudsplitter, so I was eager to read another book by the author. The story opened with the arrogant Jordan Banks, architect, visiting the wealthy Cole family in their Adirondack home. The characters bored me, quite frankly, and the storyline didn’t even give me the slightest interest until page 82, when we find out that Vanessa Cole is a lunatic. Unfortunately, even that wasn’t enough to save the story for me. And, to make matters worse, the Spanish Civil War and Hindenburg flashbacks didn’t work here at all. They seem thrown in haphazardly in a deliberate attempt to point out contrasts in the characters. Instead, it just seemed like you were watching television and someone changed the channel for a moment. Overall, a disappointing read.
