Francesca Semenza francescasemenza — Gene Luen Yang This was a good book. The book had three stories, with combine together in such an amazing way. I think this is a good recommendation, but read on even if you meet some boring parts. Great if you know Chinese.

Bryce Arney bryce81fb — This series is killing me! Along with the heart stopping, action-packed, mystery filled narrative, once again, Vincent did not disappoint! As the third installment on the Soul Screamers series, this one latched on to me since page 1. I should’ve also been prepared for the twists that Vincent was laying out in the story, but boy, I didn’t even see it til I clumsily tripped over it. Just…wow! Moreover, I was glad that Kaylee stayed smart and strong as I know she would be. Unlike other female lead characters out there, who seems all girly whiny all the effing time, Kaylee was able to steer clear of all of that drama. If only she could also steer clear of the life-threatening troubles… *sigh* Also, while I was reading this book, I couldn’t help but scream “Omg! Nash! I can’t believe you did that! You effing idiot! Ugh!!!” With the (rather stupid) predicament that Nash was in, which drove him to do the things he did to Kaylee & though he didn’t have any choice in the matter, I could’ve seriously ripped his balls out! I know he was defenseless to fight his weakness, but c’mon! What an asshole-y way he treated everything! Ugh! Not only that, but that bitch Sophie made my blood boil!!! I swear, if I see her in real life, she would’ve been six feet under by now. Ugh! She deserved to be knocked out by Tod…if only he had hit harder… And speaking of Tod, if he was real, I’d probably jump him & cuddle him to death…oops. Too late. But seriously, I like him more than Nash now. He’s sweet and feisty & the way he cares for Addy made my heart break for him…poor Tod :( Since the ending left me hanging, I’m more eager to read the next one to see what’s in store for these characters…& hopefully, Nash will be fixed by then…or not…who knows?

Arix King _ — This is one of Roberts' less recent works, probably re-packaged and re-published after she got more prolific. I always enjoy her writing, but I had a difficult time buying the chemistry in this one. Rich, but not snobby, psychiatrist Dr. Tess Court is asked by her senator grandfather to consult with the police on a serial killer. Ben Paris is the police detective who falls for her. Tess cares a little bit more about her clients than is probably healthy (professional boundaries, anyone?) and even wants to treat the killer once he is caught. Ben's pretty high-handed in his treatment of Tess, but considering the publication date, that's not too out of the ordinary. What really irritated me was the ending. The killer was completely implausible. Quite a disappointment from a usually very reliable author. Fortunately, this book is followed by Brazen Virtue, which I really enjoyed as Ben's partner Ed (not a typical romance hero type) gets to star in his own tale.

Eric Bruinewoud _1a39 — This is one of the books that taught me that Books Can Hurt. It was part of what I now consider to be my fourth grade teacher's reign of terror - she read Where the Red Fern Grows and Bridge to Terabithia out loud to us (and those are just the books I was in her class for), and I seriously think she did it for the days when, inevitably, the entire class would spend the afternoon weeping at our desks. That said, though - and it needed to be said - this is a good book; it was so engaging to me at that age that I got it from the library after the first day she read it to us and finished it by myself later that night. (Admittedly, this was not uncommon behavior for me. I did not like reading at other people's paces.) Of course, this meant I got to cry twice, and also spend the intervening time trying not to cry because I knew what was coming. The characters are engaging. The story is memorable even 25 years later. But this is the book that taught me two important lessons: do not trust Katherine Paterson as far as you can see her, and do not trust fourth grade teachers, either.
