Bryam Calderon romainruiz8872 — Mary Roach has almost redeemed herself in my eyes. Following the success and enjoyable reading of Stiff, she tried too hard using humour with Spook and Bonk, thus reducing her credibility. Packing for Mars has her wit and famously long footnotes, but also some great facts about space travel. It was an easy read and a learning experience. Probably good for a bored teen to read, especially the chapters on "The three dolphin club: mating without gravity" and "Eating your pants: is Mars worth it?"

Josef Brian sefthepanda — Sometimes I stumble on an unexpected, but intuitive continuum in my reading, that leads me from one related book to another, which all have an intrinsic connection, shedding new light on some fascinating puzzles about both literary and politically relevant figures. Such is the situation with the list of books I've currently been reading listed below. I started out with the Roberto Bolano books and moved on to Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine" and the "Fidel Castro: My Life" -A Spoken Autobiography. I highly recommend the reading trip. It was a revelation. Both Castro and Bolano are immensely informative and eye-opening sources to learn from and try to understand the events in Latin America for the past 50 years. Their mind-sets are totally different, almost opposite, one political and the other literary, which makes for an almost complete picture of the ideological forces on the surface to the realisms of the underbelly in Revolutionary struggles. Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism," effectively puts the nail in the coffin of what may be the necessary end of unregulated global capitalism, based on greed and tortuous disregard for the people.
