Juan Fonseca juanofdelae — Don't use your faded memories of the stupid movie with Nicholas Cage as an excuse not to read this book. It's excellent. I love to read about World War II and this book portrays the aftermath of the war in the European Theater, an underexplored topic in all the zillions of war novels. The love story is sexy, the war business is sad and the book is very pretty.

Victor Roman victoroman — These books just get better and better. Patricia Briggs doles out little tidbits of everyone's lives to make the waiting worthwhile. You get some new information on Zee, Samuel and even Adam. I really like the way Ms. Briggs weaves elements of previous stories in so you know whose who and what happened in just a few sentences. With series books published so far apart, it's often difficult to remember specifics. I believe the last installment had vampires; this one, the Fae. Mercy is an amazing character who just takes hit after hit until she's finally had enough and strikes back. I enjoyed the multi-layered storyline: multiple kidnappings, Mary Jo's betrayal, the werewolf challenge, Adam's injuries and Sylvia's defection. So much going on but nothing lost in the hoopla. Wonderfully written and even Samuel gets a happy ending.

Clement Gallois _lement_allois — Patrick Rothfuss' debut novel is hearty meal to digest. Although I found the beginning a little slow starting, once the actual tale began I was completely engrossed. Our hero Kvothe is far from perfect. He's arrogant but insecure at the same time. However his sheer brilliance and sometimes dumb luck pulls him through his trials. Kvothe as a character is a fully fleshed out living breathing person who I could imagine standing in my kitchen telling this tale. The peripheral characters were not as well crafted, but as a story told in the first person, we really only see what Kvothe things or sees of them. So while others commented on this as a detriment, I'd chalk it up to the first person narrative. As readers, we only see what Kvothe sees. I really enjoyed this book and am eagerly anticipating it's sequels.
