Tifa Cloud tifacloud — Silly, sappy chick lit. The Secret Life of Bees was better. I agree with the other reviewer who said the main character was whiny. I came away from the book not liking her at all, which is a bad thing when someone is supposed to be a protagonist :)

Zhao Mariana zhaomariana — I go back and forth on Ian McEwan but this was definitely not one of my favorites, it felt like a failed attempt to be the British Jonathan Franzen. I think I prefer his books that are more historical. Also, the whole physics thing was a bit over my head and a more solid knowledge then my "Physics in the Modern World" class in college probably would have helped. It's interesting to see how topics of global warming are entering into contemporary literature but I can't say say it was wholly successful.

Peter Kaalund peterkaalund — This was a good read- I enjoyed it muhc more than Omnivore's Dilemma although to some extent it covers similar territory. It is more entertaining because Buford works in various kitchens, such as Mario Batali's (where he spends too many pages I think), and so we see the insides of restaurant kitchens. But then he goes to Tuscany and it becomes a bit of a fairy tale.

Ivan Sheligo sheligo — Very long, but worth the time. This book details the lives of three families (one irish, one black, and one white) living in Boston during the 60's. Issues such as gentrification, racism, crime, and integration in public schools are the backbone of this book. If you want to learn about civil rights events from different racial perspectives, this would be a good start.
