Ayman Abdullah _ — Not for the squeamish!

Martin Baker theprint — the book is well written and the idea of it has so much potential but the author paints hadley as such a bland character. i don't think i'd feel as if i were missing out too much if i'd skipped this one and stuck with 'a moveable feast' instead.

Sean Chua seanclone — This was a painful book for me... a beautiful story, but just painful to witness such incredible dysfunction. Throughout the entire book, I was reminded of my youngest brother's comment to me years ago when I was heartbroken that my middle-brother would not voluntarily give up his children and what they would suffer as his kids (he is a near-replica of the father in this story) - he said that children were surprisingly resilient and that there are endless stories of children overcoming and even growing stronger from the dysfunctional experiences they had in child-hood. This is - quite obviously - the case with the author... As I said, a beautiful story, but painful. I do think my favorite part was the author's ability to fully capture the love you can have for a person who breaks your heart again and again with their self-centeredness, but then can make you forget their craziness with one sweet gesture that means so much. That - in a nutshell - is my relationship with my middle brother.
