Tess Mayer tessmayer — Dresden Files ile ilk deneyimim, Sci-Fi ağındaki televizyon şovunda oldu. İlk sezondan gerçekten keyif aldım ve geçen ayki bir konferansta Jim Butcher ile görüşmem gerektiğinden en azından kitapları okumam gerektiğini düşündüm. Kitabın diziden ne kadar farklı olduğuna dürüstçe şaşırdım. Açıkçası, değişiklikler olacak, çünkü her zaman var, ama yine de şaşırdım. Birinci şahıs anlatımını biraz rahatsız edici buldum (sık sık yaptığım gibi) ve bazen arsa garip yönlerde dolaşıyormuş gibi hissettim. Parselin bir süre daha geldiğini görebildim, ama Kasap bunu iyi idare etti. Genel olarak, bu iyi bir ilk kitap çabasıydı ve sonunda kendimi kentsel fanteziden (bu benim favorim değil) bir ara verdikten sonra dizideki diğerlerini okuyacağım.

Misha Kozik mishadoff — Ms. Miller steps away from the chilling elements typically found in her stories and takes us into a sweltering ‘Jungle of Deceit’. For me the suspense pulled this story along; the mildly romantic subplot took a back seat to the mysteries that were filtered throughout this book. A beautifully descriptive setting, typical of Ms. Miller, shows us a hidden compound deep within the jungle that provides little sense of comfort for her characters. The details of Mayan artifacts and those who search to uncover them, or those who wish to profit off of them, are also well written. However, the hero and heroine lacked something I’m not quite able to put my finger on in this particular tale. She makes it work though - the books is about more than exchanging witty digs in avoidance of the inevitable, there is intense adventure in which two people are trying to find out the truth about the compound, their roles in the plan and the deceit of those in their lives. Love develops as a consequence, I get that. In short, Ms. Miller always pulls through with an enjoyable page turning read and we should look forward to her next piece. [Rating based on genre]
