Daiva M dmmattis65bc — While I loved both Artur and Elaina - it was the subject more than anything that bothered me. Just the thought of them being locked up because of their talents turned my stomach. It is well written with a good true love story and a great ending.

Hazel Anne deguzmanha8594 — 1984 was highly recommended to me by several Granville students and other friends who had already read it, so I was anticipating a grasping and action-filled story line. Although I would not classify this story as "action-packed", the story was very grasping once I got past the first 100 pages. The idea of the police watching people constantly on TV-like appliances really sparked my thoughts about how wonderful privacy is today. I was slighty disturbed but also quite impressed with Orwell's futuristic predictions. Even though most of the rules for Winston's society are not part of our laws today (thank goodness), Orwell still described many ideas that reflect parts of our current world (such as telescreens, war, and desire for power). 1984 was a thought-provoking and well-written story, but the characters' thoughts about the human mind and reality occasionally confused me and made it hard to focus on the plot.

Juan Orozco jd_r95 — Dick is contemplating throwing himself off a bridge, but is 'saved' by Jake. They take a long, rambling journey through Norway, and possibly some other places, but I don't know for sure because I just couldn't read it anymore. Dick is trying to escape the influence of his 'famous poet' father, but it seems like the book is an excuse for du Maurier to feature her poetic descriptions of the fjords. Dick himself seems to be suffering from bi-polar disorder, alternately in love with and disenchanted by any experience he engages in often swinging from moody to moodier almost instantly. It's enough to make the reader just as crazy.
