It is a heartbreaking tale of the years between Laci's death and Scott finally being sent to prison. Sharon was inspired to write the book by a desire to help others who find themselves in the same situation; to detail how the love of family, friends, and community helped her survive the ordeal, and to convey how much was lost when her wonderful daughter was taken. It was a powerful book.

Aries Lachey arieslachey — My eyes are a little blurry while I type this because I couldn't put this book down! Just finished reading this on a school Nook (love that device). High school junior Violet has a special talent -- she can sense murdered corpses through what she calls their echo, which can be a sound, a light, a color, or a vibration that calls out to her. She found her first dead body buried in the woods when she was 8, and has a cemetery in her back yard full of animal corpses. Her best friend since first grade, Jay, seems to understand her "gift", or at least accept that she has a unique ability. As they start their junior year, and suddenly Violet is seeing Jay with new eyes -- when did he grow so tall? his voice get so deep? did he become so disarmingly handsome? -- there's a serial killer on the loose and the echoes of murdered young girls begin calling out to Violet. The author lets us into the head of the killer which increases the creepy factor, but keeps things vague and appropriate for the YA audience. Girls will LOVE the romance in this novel, but boys can enjoy it too for the murder-mystery thrill.

Bettina Pabst bettinapab063e — I'm usually a big Kleypas fan but I think this one was a bit too "old school romance" for my tastes. I really liked the beginning of the book, before Alex and Lily got together. I liked them both individually and was looking forward to their relationship. That's when it fell apart for me. The sex scenes reminded me of why I didn't read romance back in the 80s and into the early 90s. (view spoiler)
