Dominika Kurkova _ominika_urkova — I don't know how the Library of Congress picks the Poet Laureate of the United States. I am fairly sure it involves secret meetings and long conversations. However, they do it, I am grateful that they just picked Philip Levine. I might not have read any poetry by him without having heard the announcement about his appointment. This book is amazing. I just don't have the words to do Levine justice. His words are all you need. Go to the library, check out this book and read. Don't speed through it - there are less than 90 pages. Read each poem. Think about it, maybe read it out loud. Then go away and come back for another. Levine writes stories in his poetry and like all good stories they need to be chewed and digested. This poetry requires thought. If you know me, you can pick out a couple of poems that I might love. Yes, I did like "Library Days" and the poems set in Spain. But others, ones that I had to warm up to, still stick in my brain. "Closed", "Homecoming" and "Magic" are also wonderful. You could sit down and read this book in an afternoon. Or you could say I don't read poetry and never even pick it up. Do yourself a favor. Take the time to savor this book. You won't be sorry.

mcdeighton
Mary Deighton mcdeighton — ★★★★☆ I loved it! My Thoughts: This is my first Keri Arthur book, so being Australian (like Keri, which I didn't know beforehand) you can imagine my surprise when she started naming streets I was familiar with in Melbourne. Whenever there's a fantasy novel based in my home country I find it really hard to dislike it because it's so much easier to connect with a character that speaks the same way you do. Regardless, I found the story to be multi-layered and smooth-flowing so I know I would've liked it anyway. When I first picked it up I was only planning to skim the first page to get a feel for the story. It starts with Risa being followed by something she shouldn't know is there and before I knew it, I had to know what the deal was. Her and her friends are all unique in an already unique world and each have something that connects them to each other. Risa is a strong female lead being very loyal and very brave to face the things she needs to. There's a particularly hot scene in this and what goes down is a definite first for me which I wasn't ready for. Let's just say that Keri knows how to make the pages steam. Final Opinion: Darkness Unbound was a perfect mix of fantasy, mystery, suspense and hot boys. I know for sure I'll be back as I ordered the next one as soon as I finished and I have it waiting for my next to my bed right now. I'm looking forward to reading her Riley Jenson books too. First Lines: I've always seen the reapers. Even as a toddler—with little understanding of spirits, death, or the horrors that lie in the shadows—I'd been aware of them. As I'd gotten older and my knowledge of the mystical had strengthened, I'd begun to call them death, because the people I'd seen them following had always died within a day or so. Favourite Quote: "Darling girl, all you have to do is suggestively bat those gorgeous eyes his way, and the man won't care if you have monstrous bags underneath them." (Tao, page 93) Dark Angels Series Darkness Unbound Darkness Rising Darkness Devours

Anna Glot _nna_lot — Still reading it, but like all of Gaiman's stuff, he shows a deft touch with the intersections and differences among beliefs. He knows the details, and he grasps the underlying structures. He understands how people use myths, and how myths use people. Plus, he's just got a good imagination and it's always fun to follow where his stories lead.

Cristina Gago crisgagoo329ac — More than just a slice of life. It's a story of a particular time and people. Mr. Russell didn't shy away from common occurances of the time and it wasn't always comfortable to read these parts of our history. The spirit of people who don't give up and move toward a better life is inspiring.

Jawdat Al-yousef arch_jawdat — This book is a relatively fun read if you enjoyed books like Lewis Carol's original Alice in Wonderland or Norton Juster's The Phantom Tollbooth. Be prepared for a lot of nonsensical adventure, much wordplay, and an absolutely enjoyable way to while away the hours.
